Boss Blocked Transfer

Post by Danny7 »

Sadly, my boss has not been honest about speaking to his boss regarding my transfer. I've been looking for a transfer since February. My wife & i had arranged holiday to move on the 1st of June. Thinking that's be enough time, right? Everything I'm going to write regarding my situation I have been open & honest about with my boss, throughout. My wife is pregnant. It's our first baby. We realised we won't be able to afford to live where we are living because my wife is on an ancestry visa, so not untitled to benefits, & she started her job at the RSPCA too recently to get maternity pay. The cost of our rent, council tax & living is far too much for my measly wage alone. So we have been looking for a property in cheaper areas. We found a couple of options where it was cheaper to live & there were jobs going, & I discussed it with the boss. He warned me off one of them. So the wife & I have been driving to the area selected to view properties within out budget. We did this 3 times. At the cost of about £100 a time. There were properties we could have gone for, but the boss was delaying, saying that his boss wasn't getting back to him, so we couldn't have told the rental companiesthat we have a date we could move. This went on for a couple of months. I visited the local sorting office & spoke to the manager twice, who was really happy about me joining his team. He said that he needed to increase his staff. I went back & spoke with my boss multiple times throughout the months regarding the importance of this move & that we are concerned that his boss isn't getting back to him. Then!! The day before our week holiday, where we were supposed to be moving, the boss said that his boss told him that he needs to decrease his staff levels by 3 or 4 people & that he isn't going to approve the transfer!! At this point I contacted the union (something I should have done from the get go, but shouldn't need to). Now the wife & I have no property to move into, the boss of where we were going to move to has suddenly gone quiet & isn't riffing my calls or answering messages. So, I'm really stressed & panicking. Resulting in my back feeling like I've just been in a car accident & I'm fuming. Then the union rep says that he's spoken to the boss of my boss & he didn't know anything about it!! So, I'm off work & just been told that I'm only entitled to statutory sick pay............. We're Done!!
What can be done about this??!! :coolr

I was told by my boss, not that long ago that they couldn't stop someone from transferring so long as there is a position to fill. So if it were me i'd take it as far and as high as I could.
