Mileage for Working at a Different Office

I've been loaned out to a couple of neighbouring D.O's because they are short of people. This involves me driving twice the distance to and from work some days than when I'm working at the office named on my contract of employment.

One of the chaps tells me I can claim mileage or an OT credit for this. I can't say I'm surprised that none of my managers have ever mentioned this. Does anyone know what the rate per mile is? And do any of you have experience of claiming it?

When I did it I was told to book an hour’s overtime for the inconvenience but I doubt this is the official policy.

Yes I one had to go to a different office and got paid for it..so much per mile..keep a tally of it obviously and you will get it.. I forget what it was but it all helps

Don't use your own car!

Just go to your office at your start time, ask for a van to travel to the other office, and then make sure you're back at your office for your finish time.

If they question it say your insurance only covers you to and from your normal place of work, which it probably does.

Just another thought, I know the other offices are further from home but are they better offices than yours ? If so would you consider a transfer as you'd be in a good position to know what it's like working in them.

Most car insurance policies which include commute normally specify that you should be driving to a single place of work, check your policy before using your vehicle. You may be covered, but check first

Thanks for all the replies. And Teds question does apply! I'm considering a transfer. The other offices are much less stressful places to work without a certain unpleasant manager spoiling everyone's day! So I don't want to do anything that stops them sending me there but on barely above minimum wage I'd like my mileage

45p per mile is what I've been paid before.

Check your entitled to claim. Mobility clauses are part of contracts.

Think I remember someone once saying that it's only when the offices are more than 30 miles apart that you can claim mileage. Like other's have already said, check what your insurance policy says about commuting, if it says to a usual/regular place of work only.

Bad advice. If they are involved in an accident the insurance company won't pay up. Don't know if the police would also class it as driving without insurance.

Even if they didn't would rather a RM van got damaged or your own car.
