Working Your Day Off

Post by pickaname »

We were told this morning that if we choose to work our day off we have to come in at 07:50 instead of the normal time of either 6:50, 6:40 or 6:20 (you dont do inward sorting on your day off now anyway so 30 or 40 mins were taken off the official start time anyway). No overtime can be claimed on your day off from now on.

My question is this:

HOW DOES THE MANAGEMENT EXPECT STAFF TO PREP AND COMPLETE A WALK IF THEY ARE COMING IN AT 7:50 to finish at 13:58?

As NWpostie says if you agree and can accept their rules then work your day off. If you don't agree and you cant do it within their limitations, then refuse their request politely.

If everyone says sorry, I have something planned and you are not paying enough they will get the message. After all overtime is always voluntary (except SA) and they cannot force you to do it.

So your not doing Inward sorting so in effect your doing what Part timers do anyway, whats the problem?
In our office part timers don`t come in till 8.15 and most seem to manage to get out ok and finish for 14.00.
Your not one of them Full timers who come in a few ahhhem minutes early to `get a start` are you. :silenced

So youre saying that it is possible to throw off an 800+ drop walk in under 2 hours, cycle to a delivery possibly 4 miles away and return in time for a 13:58 finish? Who are you Usain Bolt?

The walks in your office must be a piece of piss...

If your delivery has a problem, the man to speak to is your Union rep and put your delivery in for a revision.

Ahem - MODERATOR HAT ON.

This thread is getting a tad personal the Original Poster asked for advice not sarcastic comments. Any advice out there.

they tried to cut the paid hours in our office for OT
eg 2 hours for 1/2 a walk and saying D2D's had to be taken as well
however once nobody took any OT they soon chaged their minds

If RM don't want to pay you for a full day then you just don't do it, I don't do it anymore and I won't be doing it a Christmas (all they'll get from me is 40 hours).

This has been happening in our D.O. for at least 12 months, they used to offer full shift, then it became 6hours(no ips)
now you only get 5 hours!
we have to absorb the prep, although for some reason if your on a driving duty you still get the full 8 hours.

I continue to repeat this "A union is only as strong as its members". Get a local cwu meeting, all agree not to work your days off unless paid full hours. You might lose out for a couple of weeks...but when management cant get walks covered they will have to pay full hrs. :Very Happy

Makes sense to me...ill be talking to the rep on Monday. I just dont see how or why RM are only offering 6 hours for a duty that should take 8.18 hours.

Belive the agency charges are in excess of £250 + the wages for the man they supply so you can guess that it's around must be around £550 to £600 per week
