hi

is it true that in a few years there will be no bikes for royal mail ?

i heard today that's all but i thought it just could be a rumor.???

at the office i work at
a few bikes was stolen
mine was one of them brand new as well
the poor thing got set on fire too

it ended up leaving us short of bikes.

the managers have said were not getting anymore they cant afford any

no bike walk
its as simple as that :chuckle
its a big shame but we will have to get on with walking :cry

There is indeed a massive cut back on cycles. I don't know which area you are in but ours has a new cycle guy who is creating a data base of cycles, by numbers, locations and necessity. Cycles will only be replaced in extremis and from someone else's' location. The theory is the bikes will go on and on beyond the 7 year life span with diligent repair and use. Total bollocks of course if you can't get the spares, which you can't. The millennium cycles we have are mostly scrap waiting for the final chop because the spares aren't available. I mean the Mailstars have had a new front and rear wheel config and you can't get the spare for the 5 geared hubs and the relevant brake and gear cables and most of them are under 5 years old so for 9 year olds.....................

Personally I think it is just flannel. Ask your manager how much your office is being charged for using HCTs per trolley per week, you may well be surprised - more so if you didn't know there was a price to pay. And if you have them and don't use them - well they won't take any back.

Our rounds have been revised and only two walks are now using bikes, the rest have trolleys, we're on the second week of doing the new rounds an it's absolutely awful, so much dead walking.

No money for bikes??? we've been told at are D.O. that we will be all using vans on delivery in the next 12-18months,
one van per 2 postmen  .Look forward to seeing the transporters turn up with 75 or so shiney new red vans.
Maybe thats why you can't have new bikes the savings will pay for our vans

yes i hope so it would be really good to have vans
and helping each other on the rounds.

its were to store all the vans that would be a problem i think ?
and how much money in fuel it would cost the company ?

it sounds like all areas are having there rounds done ( more added )
i forgot what they call it now
is it geo route or some thing

place i work the round numbers have changed
i think 3 walks was split into the rest of the rounds
leaving some having 700 drops.
and yes its awful lol

its wrong working full 8 hours :chuckle :chuckle

We have just had our Milleniumn bikes replaced with rusty framed second hand Mailstar bikes. So yeah it looks like they are cutting back.

Our manager did say something about using converted Smart Cars . What a load of bollocks. Just think of the fuel & maintenance costs plus the added polution. Sometimes I wonder what planet RM are on.

Mind you looking on the bright side if you broke down with a smart car you could put in on your back and pop it round to the depot for fixing by the redundant cycle mechanic. Back on the road in no time.

Would they stop deliveries if the wind speed was expected to be over, I don't know 10 mph. :Very Happy

That would depend - if it was behind you - that would mean more work - if it was a headwind, the 30 minutes flexi time comes into play and you would have to do more work.

It would'nt cost Royal Mail too much for these smart cars. Their idea is that YOU would buy them at a knock-down price from them and perhaps pay weekly out of your wages. Seriously, I heard this suggestion from a very senior manager. My suggestion of a donkey for each postie was turned down flat!
