What's with the Fluffy/Dark side labels?

Post by andy2007 »

What's the point in referring to PMC as "the fluffy side", and RMC as "the dark side"?
Is it really neccessary?

The fact is: lots of people are on both Sites. Which is an excellent way, of geting a balanced view of what's happening.

A lot has changed since last year. POSTMAN and the other Mods, have made a concerted effort to stop the anti Management Witch Hunts on RMC. And Mrs. Tennant (sorry, I made a mistake with the names. She was never Superadmin. He quit, when PMC closed down, last year), has tried to encourage those of us with different views to hers, to Post there. All that is required, is that we don't become abusive (also discouraged here), and that we clearly state, when we are repeating rumours, rather than facts (good advice, generally). On PMC.

Can anyone tell me, why it's neccessary for the users of these two excellent Sites to criticise each other. Rather than working together, to provide the best communication available for Posties. Some will prefer one, others will prefer the other. But why can't we make use of both?

I will be starting this Thread on both Sites. It should prove interesting to find out why anyone thinks this attitude is neccessary.

In my opinion the site is run by r.m or under the influence of managers within r.m any comment which favours the ucw is put under suspicion and is more often than not dismissed as being from the far left.
This is why you were banned if you dared mention rmc this sort of attitude is inherent with the site. The fluffy site is pro r.m without exceptions your views are really only welcome if you agree with the once but now under new identities...... slh ,sa, and all the other mods which they now welcome onboard again as mods which i find suspicious in itself. :hmmmm

It's Hellmail who originally did the Dark Side article about RMC and have done articles about RMC in a similar vein - they just happen to be a junior member of Fluffy chat , it'd be a nice idea if all three sites could co-exist peacefully but there's at least one that always resorts back to type . :hmmmm :hmmmm :hmmmm :cuppa :cuppa :cuppa

Sorry I agree with Axeman , some of the trans- gender swaps of moderators   would make a interesting thread on Fluffy Chat " Life and Leisure " :left: :left: - they also have a habit of tripping themselves up too .

I'd be inclined to be skeptical & cynical about the nice cop , bad cop stuff , apparently there's no alternative to :lfo & :cfo , there's nothing personal in anything RM do , there's no agendas :left: :left: everything is purely down to Postcon and EEC directives , mistakes and cock ups are only because their wasn't enough time and poor , poor RM is the victim being kicked from behind :hmmmm :hmmmm :funneh :funneh

Night Tonic I take it you have not done as POSTMAN asks and read the new rules - I quote -
If someone has a different position to you please respect their right to have differing views, and enjoy yourself when picking holes in their position in a constructive way. We would much rather have a long winded well thought out argument, picking out weak points in someone's position, than have a thread full of 1 line insults.
He has a different opinion, well I think he does as you have not stated yours, therefore please as the rules ask respect his right to have a different opinion and don't in effect call him a liar.

We now have a way of warning users who breach the rules but I won't do it on this instance.

What makes you think that?

Post by andy2007 »

The only Post of mine, which has been removed (or edited for that matter). Was one, where I included a rumour, and forgot to say that it was, only rumour. When I reposted the request for information, it was allowed without any trouble. As far as I'm aware. The only person who was made to feel unwelcome, was Lamar. Due to his aggressive stance towards PMC. Since he calmed down, his Posts have been recieved in the same friendly way, as mine. Like I said, I may be wrong. But I'm sure he will speak up, if he's not being made welcome. He's a member of both Sites.

As for mentioning RMC: They haven't criticised me for mentioning it, regularly. They also, kept us all informed of when POSTMAN was expecting it to be back up. Hardly the actions of a Site wishing to discourage us from using it, is it? :hmmmm

I know that I have been accused of being too reasonable in the past. And it's possible that I am (I'm hardly the best one to judge that). But I fail to see why users of either Site, should criticise the other. You don't see POSTMAN or Mrs. Tennant criticising each others Sites, do you? :hmmmm

As a Moderator on here and a regular poster on there I see both sites as useful for what they do. I believe PMC has changed and seems to be more inclusive, I also think Mrs T has a very good sense of humour and it comes through in her posts. I think PMC will always tend towards pro-Royal Mail and we will tend to be pro-CWU and I do not think there is anything wrong in that.

I am afraid I am the guilty one for the "fluffy" comment and I will post a message on my blog about it tomorrow. But basically what I said in my Blog was that I thought PMC was trying to be a more laid back and less about work, and I termed this as fluffy it was not meant to be derogatory merely descriptive. Perhaps that was the wrong use of words and if it has upset anyone then I apologise.

I actually quite like the new PMC as it stands, its aims were quite clearly stated when it came back, and its has been successful so far in achieving that and long may it continue. RMC has and probably always will be more Union biased, not towards the CWU but in its outlook. We have always had more "lefties" on here than PMC and we do seem to have activists on here than PMC does. They have always been stricter on what you are allowed to post and we were a little more carefree. However, RMC is now changing the rules,(everyone should have read them by now), and we will be enforcing them more than we did before.

I think RMC and PMC can and are a good mix and both sites main focus is helping Royal Mail workers as much as they can, lets hope that both sites keep their own particular character and both work hard to support, inform and entertain Royal Mail staff.

But we are still the No1 site for Postal Workers :Very Happy

I didn't register with the original PMC site because from what I heard on RMC it was quite pro-management, or at least did not allow any citicism of RM managers paticularly AL&AC, and it required your ISP address to register.
It was perhaps a coincidence that it shut down the day after the acceptance of the Pay and Modernisation Agreement, which
suggested it had served its' purpose.
Perhaps it was also a coincidence that it reappeared a few days after RMC was hacked and shut down (and the RMC site was occupied by a RM site four weeks later).
I have looked at PMC since as they now allow you to look at the first post in a thread, but although they now seem to be less hostile to RMC, it does seem to be qite uncontroversial and not to say very much. Some people might like that but I find it a bit boring. I prefer to hear different views, even if they do not coincide with mine.

No, it wasn't a coincidence

Aparently, someone known as Agbonlahor started Emailing, to ask when PMC would be back. I don't know for sure, but I assume the timing of the requests, was because RMC was down at the time.

At least " Ahoy there - me hearties" isn't one of these terrible people that are stamping their feet and trying to stir up dust due their deluded ideas - it's a business now - you must all forget all these naive misguided ideas about morals and principles :arrrghhh  & stop trying to recruit and turn the clock back to 1917   :left:

The Railways have been a resounding success , they've brought back an age of golden nostagliga by taking things back to the pre war late 40's & 50's , what would these poor New labour witless civil servants do otherwise , only 5 X the level of subsidy , overpriced and overcrowded , fragmented - likewise the resounding successes with the utilities , Telecoms - Broadband through slow pre war Copperwire - better than fibre -optic abroad , buses - people must remember it gives choice and there is competition - well at least sometimes ! :d'oh! :funneh

Sarcasm & irony aside - I think it's purely to get the last "modernization " stage + any future part / full privatization ideas through smoothly / soften people up for - just like the Yes vote last year :hmmmm : :hmmmm :hmmmm
