If your day off falls on a bank holiday i believe you get it back in your next years annual leave.

It's this years annual leave. I'm on holiday this week and the next bank holiday at the end of May falls on my day off so I've got 2 extra days to take in this years entitlement. I usually try to get at least 1 or 2 bank holidays off on annual leave as you get the days added to your entitlement and it makes it up to 5 weeks without having to buy any holidays.

If your day off falls on a bank holiday you are entitled to a lieu day. Make sure you keep a note of them. I keep mine and tag them on to a long weekend.

I've been spare heaps of times and I've never been told my day off a week in advance before.
If it has not happened before thank your lucky stars and put it down to bad luck.

If however, it happens all the time like it did with me when I was spare, go and see your rep about putting in a grievance for unfair treatment. I was a floater for about a year and I was on every Public Holiday marked down as having that as a day off. Mind you it did mean an extra week off when it was all added together.

It's swings and roundabouts really. You can either make a complaint like TBT says or you can just do what I do and safely assume that all bank holiday weeks I'll be scheduled so my day off falls on the bank holiday and take the extra week's leave at your convenience.

Happened to me last Xmas, was spare & they put my day off on Boxing Day & the week after New Years Day.

Went into the office a month or so later to take some leave & was told i had no holidays left.

After a "verbal exchange" it soon got sorted.
