Did these two things happen?

Post by Up Hill Down Hill »

Or are they scare tactics?

Was told today that a) a females post woman had a finger bit off by some dog and had to wait for the police to come to retrieve the finger and b) a van was stolen because someone left the keys in

Anyone else have these in their team briefs this week?

Dunno about the finger, but the vans is definitely true. I know of two people who this has happened to. One guy saw the thief getting into the drivers seat and ran to stop the vehicle and nearly got run down for his trouble. Didn't save the van and didn't save his job either.

I heard some pensions got knicked cos someone left someone else in charge. Is it a sackable offence? think they lost goods to the value of £3.6 billion, not sure but the charge might be,"failing to safeguard the security of our deferred wages. Wonder if IB will turn over the homes of those responsible?

Yes there are some stories about posties leaving keys in vans and getting sacked - Hell Mail had a story with a postwoman of 14 years being sacked for that http://www.hellmail.co.uk/postalnews/te ... &zoneid=13

and see the following news about the postman who was savaged for 15 minutes by 2 dogs
http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/forum/vi ... hp?t=10869

Not a dog biting a finger but a cat attacking a posties hand http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/forum/vi ... =cat#93557

So in this case no not scare stories in fact they may have toned it down a bit.

Serious dog attack causes horrific injury to colleague - for all delivery and collection colleagues working in North Territory - Date: April 08

What happened?

One of our people has recently been the victim of a very serious injury from a dog bite. Whilst pushing mail through a letter box the delivery officer's finger was bitten off by a dog waiting behind the door. Though this is a particular horrific case, the scenario is all too common and is a vivid reminder that we need to remind our people of the need to take extra care at all times. The fact is that you don't know what's lurking behind the door.

How can you protect yourself?
Although most dog attacks incidents are beyond our direct control, there are a few important things that can reduce the severity of the problem. Remember that dogs are territorial animals, and it is in their nature to defend their territory.

It then goes on to list some key messages - the main one would be to never put your fingers through a letter box as a dog regards this area as his territory. Use a pen to lift the flap or, if necessary, knock on the door and hand the item over.

Believe it our not a temp manager handed me this morning when I informed him about the outcome of the Paul Coleman court case. This info was to be cascaded to all employees in the North Territory during a WTLL session.
