Actually I have no strong views either way but I would never cross a picket line even if I did not agree with the strike.

Personally I think they have a bloody cheek. A 6 hour day and a 37 week year for £22k a year. I just knew I should have paid attention at school. As for extra curricula activity - I used to laugh when I picked my son up from school, if the bell went at 3.30 and you stood between the school gates - 59 out of the 60 teachers would have run you over by 3.31. And all that crap about preparing the lesson .................... how much preparation does it take? 2 + 2 is 4, and 1066 is 1066, - it was always and will be always.

That sounds a bit like a member of the public thinking their postie just picks up a bag of mail delivers to their street and goes home. Indeed read quite a few such comments during our strike, but they were wrong and so are you. Fellow public servants with three consecutive years of pay cuts and the prospect of three more to follow. Do you think that's a good idea?dvbuk55 wrote:Personally I think they have a bloody cheek. A 6 hour day and a 37 week year for £22k a year. I just knew I should have paid attention at school. Rather not like the example quoted. Firstly I actually did go to school contrary to popular belief, shepherded three children through school, and through college and University - so perhaps more than a passing view of postman pat crashing through my hedge and annoying my dog.BELIAL wrote:That sounds a bit like a member of the public thinking their postie just picks up a bag of mail delivers to their street and goes home. Lets take for example "Teacher Training Days" - which always seem to conveniently follow having had a substantial holiday. Next we come to preparing lessons - now who has ever seen a teacher within five miles of the school during a holiday period. Fellow public servants my arsch - when I get their salary for the hours they work and the holidays they get - then we will be fellow public servants.

my mate's a lecturer for the TUC and the problem is the beaurocracy and the amount of forms , targets and inspection with New Labour , all this top down centralized control .The idea was right in principle to weed out the lazy old duffers on 6 hr days , on the easy number etc , but like with the NHS , the "tool " they use isn't used right.woofwoof wrote:the state off yob culture these days would u want a pay rise for been a babysitter for this lot cos half the parents dont give a sh/tdvbuk55 wrote:Personally I think they have a bloody cheek. I wouldn't want to be in charge of all that chavvy inbred rubbish and I've heard some horror stories from a guy who gets sent to those Bash St places that noone wants to go to . His ideal number is Foreign Language students learning English or a " nice " public school. The "solution " is to replace the National Pay Structure with " Market Solutions " .
I agree about nursemaiding , the French system is different apparently , one keeps order and discipline , the other teaches , but that costs money , but you listen to French footballers on TV who put "thick as a parrot " monoslyablic english players to shame .
In Britain even with say infant schools , they complain about having to play parent , social services etc because those kids haven't been brought up properly by parent (s) who don't give a s**t but know everything of course ! and are never wrong .

As can be seen from the previous poster - is that 25k well spent?
Don't be fooled with all this hype from teachers - you don't hear a peep from them til they want something - then suddenly they are working a 55 hour week and are hard done by. Admittedly there are poor schools in poor areas whose parents do not have any input into their child's welfare and education but these places are far and away in the minority. We deliver to good areas and bad areas day in day out for a lot less money.
I really would like to see the break down of the 55 hour week - a teacher isn't teaching for the whole day and marks and prepares lessons during their "free" periods.
