Re: Taking over a walk....
Well done - when I moved from reserve to my own walk I had a big smile spread across me face and people could not work out why as it was a bad walk. But I am glad I got it as a regular bad walk is 10 x better than being reserve.Wiltshireboy wrote:Just wanted to announce, im going from day off reserve, to a walk on Monday. Well done

Congratulations - it will change a lot of your perceptions when you are actually given the time to get to know your customers and your sorting frame - it's one of the few nice responsibilities of this job.Wiltshireboy wrote:Just wanted to announce, im going from day off reserve, to a walk on Monday. We have at least 6 full time walks that are vacant. They have not been put up for grabs. What they are doing in our office is allocating the duties to new part timers and keeping the reserves as reserves. We were told that this is what is happening all over the UK as RM can easily get duties covered by the reserves rather than training a PT on a few duties.

Taking over a walk.
Hi Guys, This is a full time walk. Ive been covering this one, plus another 4 as a day off reserve for 3 years, now I feel like im finally getting somewhere.
We were doing the "part timer" thing, when people left, but now we have got things the way they should be IMO.
I feel so relieved.
Will let you`s know how I get on.
ps. The walk covers my house, so thats my loo/coffe stops sorted, eh?

Just make sure that the toilet break at your house is approved and noted in the walk log and NEVER, EVER, have mail with you when you take that break.Wiltshireboy wrote:Hi Guys, This is a full time walk. Re: Taking over a walk.
When I started you couldn't do the round your own address was on. You could do the adjacent round though, which in my case was about 100 metres from my house at its closest point, whereas I understood the reasoning behind the rule it is clearly out of date.rhino49 wrote:Just make sure that the toilet break at your house is approved and noted in the walk log and NEVER, EVER, have mail with you when you take that break.Wiltshireboy wrote:Hi Guys, This is a full time walk. 6 years and still a reserve and even though there are vacant duties in the office but because I know too many duties I'll never get a duty.Wiltshireboy wrote:Just wanted to announce, im going from day off reserve, to a walk on Monday. I've been in 6 years as well, im a floater on 4 walks and the PHG, i can also do another 2 walks and a couple of driving duties as well, TBH i enjoy the rotation rather than being on the same duty all the time.

Re: Taking over a walk....
Not even a floater because I can do about 30 out of the 35 duties I'll never get put on to a duty but others who struggle on even the easiest duties get left on duties (as far as I can tell it's a reward for incompetence).simply_the_best wrote:disgruntledpostie1 wrote:

Well done Wiltshireboy i know exactly how you feel as i got my own round about 18 months ago. It was probably the hardest town round in the DO but as others have said that is much better than doing different round each day. The only trouble is due to other people not being trained i end up covering a rural 2/3 times a year however i can cope with that. Anyway well done again and best of luck.
