Cleaning at Royal Mail

Post by Lovin Posties »

Is there any chance that any of you guys could just explain to me how your cleaners work within your mail centres shift pattern maybe? Do they get on as a team? I know this is asking alot and you guys dont always notice as you are also doing your job. Now this job I maybe applying for is full time working for Romec. I presume agency? Anybody heard good reports about Romec bad reports? any help would be appricated thanks.

The cleaners at our place are fighting a losing battle, not enough of them. They've just had an audit and failed so loads of agency cleaners were bought in.
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

What's a cleaner??? Are they like the Yeti or the Loch Mess monster?? We've been told that we have to clean as we go along (picking up strapping/plastic that falls on the floor).

EX Romec worker

I use to be a cleaner with romec, you be ok just don't trust what they say to you as they will cut the hours and shaft you. Happens with both me and my dad.
Depends on how big your office is and who you work with, I often worked solo, or with my dad, just remember they are mostly owned by royal mail (51%owned, like quadrant) and the managers are just the same

sorry to sound negitive, I have had really bad experience with romec

it got worse with the Building Firm that have the other 49% and the sack a few every week to keep them on their toes Building site management . Complaints about team leaders coining it in but staff treated like s***e.

In praise of cleaners......

Post by rhino49 »

A good cleaner is like gold dust - we have one who is an ex postie, does a great job and she is really missed when she is on holiday. As a Romec cleaner you answer direct to your own employer and line manager but do a good job and the office DOM will make sure you get support if you are being messed about. Cleaners are a very important aspect of the Health and Safety requirement of an office and are by no means a menial job to be looked down on. Ours is a soulie as well and can be caught dancing with her mop in moments of weakness.

All our Cleaners are good, dispite being chronically understaffed. The only time you ever see them stop for breath, is when they are on a break. They are always (in my experience) appreciated by us Posties. Although, as has already been said: their own managers seem to treat them as badly as ours do.

RM needs more cleaners, they need 4 cleaners on each shift, so that the place is tidy. 1 or 2 cleaners on each shift is a joke and RM could do with some industrial cleaners to clean the frames, machinery, the trays, etc.

at my DO the cleaners are very cheerful and very helpful. If I see them when I get back from my duty I always have a word or joke with them. Just like us Posties everyone needs the camaraderie and support of others. Well done to all the cleaners out there. Just like us you are in your feet all day doing a thankless job which is never fully appreciated and which sometimes never seems to end. You have my appreciation.

I never understand why Royal Mail used Romec as the cleaners should be working for Royal Mail not Romec. Same for the catering companies.

Probably so that AL and Ac can get more bonuses after all they are now running 5 companies that used to be all under the auspices of Royal Mail.

Royal Mail Letters
Parcel Force
Post Office Ltd
ROMEC
Quadrent

We get that done every few years

Every few years, we have a "high level clean". Some extra Cleaners come in with Cherry Pickers, and clean everywhere that couldn't possibly be reached without them. This is totally inadequate, as there is always a thick layer of dust on the Rafters, Overhead Heaters, etc.. So if any work gets done up there (new bulbs for example), there is invariably a big cloud of dust and dirt. Which undoes all the hard work put in by our usual Cleaners. But RM won't pay for it to be done regularly, and the regular Cleaners, don't have Cherry Pickers. So they can't do it themselves.
