RMCtv : Queen's Jubilee Weekend Working Arrangements : We propose that Saturday 4 June will remain a normal working day.
Ricky 'I wont be fecking workin' McAuylay
Queen's Jubilee Weekend Working Arrangements
We have received a number of questions regarding the Queen's Jubilee weekend in June and whether Royal Mail will be applying to Ofcom for a non service day on Saturday 4 June.
We have looked into the planned Bank Holiday dates and have also considered our ongoing commitment to our customers. In light of this we propose that Saturday 4 June will remain a normal working day.
This will be a normal working day for many of our customers and they expect us to be working as well. We have also recently been notified that Post Office Limited plan to open as normal on Saturday 4 June.
In terms of staffing arrangements we believe that these will be no different to our agreed approach to previous bank holiday resumptions but we will begin working on the detail of those arrangements.
Grateful if you could please share this decision with your team.
Thanks

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

LTB 114/22 - Queen’s Jubilee Weekend Working Arrangements
Queen’s Jubilee Weekend Working Arrangements
Following the attached communication received earlier today from the Operations Development Director in relation to the working arrangements for the Queen’s Jubilee weekend, a number of enquiries have been received in the DGS(P) Department regarding predominantly whether Saturday 4th June 2022 will be classed as a non-service day, have been subject to discussion with the Union.
Representations were made to Royal Mail Group (RMG) earlier this year and in particular the question was asked as to whether the business intended to appeal to Ofcom for a non-service day on the Saturday in question.
Having considered this matter, the business are of the view that as many customers will have a normal working day on 4th June and Post Office Limited also plan to open as normal, Ofcom would not be in favour of such a request especially having already granted an additional non-service day in January.
Branches and Representatives will be aware that the Union has fought vigorously to defend the Universal Service Obligation (USO) in recent times as well as pursuing the move to a 24/7 operation in order to reinvent Royal Mail Group for the next generation. It is evident however that many people will still be working on Saturday 4th June and therefore many customers will still expect a service from Royal Mail. In respect of this exceptional occasion, the company have decided that it will be dealt with in a similar manner to Easter arrangements.
In relation to the operational staffing arrangements over the Jubilee weekend, the National Officers will be holding meetings with RMG to work through the proposed arrangements to ensure that the exact details are finalised and then subsequently agreed.
Further developments will be reported in due course.
Terry Pullinger
Deputy General Secretary (Postal)

I’m not surprised and I think it’s fair enough to be honest.

Nice and embarrassing to see a "Royal" company working on quite probably the only Platinum Jubilee this country will ever see
I can imagine all the customers asking why we as the Royal Mail are working
I doubt many of my customers will be bothered about post or parcels

"Normal working day" - Leave letters in frame and deliverTracked items only it is then.

Normal working day- unmanageable workload, unroad worthy van, unimaginably painful feet from walking another 10 miles, unhappy late boss watching me push my cut off back into the office.Marshamp11 wrote: ↑10 Mar 2022, 18:34"Normal working day" - Leave letters in frame and deliverTracked items only it is then.

It's clearly intended to be a long weekend - Thursday and Friday as public holidays, and Saturday and Sunday are implied to be existing days off per the concept of 'the weekend'. But whenever a holiday does actually land on a Saturday, it is legally moved to Monday on the implication that everyone already has Saturday off so it wouldn't really be a holiday at all. Did we get upgraded to a real emergency service like the union pitched?
The machine stops.

Regarding rostered days off falling on a bank holiday, we have been told by the DOM that we cannot redeem any of those days back until the next years holiday, I'm guessing this is wrong but can anyone confirm this?
