Hi, find below the Mount Pleasant bulletin of 15 December. See you back in January!
REINSTATE OUR WORKMATE!
A lot of us have signed (or heard about) a petition for the
reinstatement of our workmate Raghbir from Lates
Packets who was unfairly dismissed and who is waiting for
his appeal hearing. We fully expect to have him back with
us - as soon as possible!
KING OF NASTINESS
We heard that one of the managers tried to stop this
petition from circulating - and it's no surprise which one...
Yes, that jumped up "King" Etcetera who himself has tried
time and again to sack workmates who have medical
restrictions or disabilities. He is totally out of order. Again.
CUTTING WHAT'S ALREADY SHORT
Managers have cut down the hours promised to our
Christmas casual workmates on Nights. Instead of the 5
full shifts a week, they're asked to come in only a few
days, staggered over the week. And then, some on nights
are asked to start at midnight till 6am, cutting the shift from
8 to 6 hours - another 25% wage cut on top! Yes
apparently for RM/Angard management crooks a contract
isn't a contract!
PS: What's more, breaks are unpaid - and these have also
been cut from 2 to 1 on nights - when we need them
most...
SANTA'S LATE? NOT OUR PROBLEM!
N1 managers must be deep in a mess! They've asked W1
drivers to volunteer to help them and a few of us from EC
(3, 4, more?) have already been sent there (involuntarily)
to do deliveries! But this is a cock-up of managers own
making, so why should we help them to get out of it?
Nope, we'll be taking our breaks and we refuse the
overtime. N1 workmates could do the same?
GET REAL!
We see that RM has owned up to major delays in 21
delivery offices, including Finsbury Park (N4 and N15) and
Hornsey (N8), but delays are obviously happening all
over... including, of course, us in Islington (N1)! Bosses
still claim the problems are mainly caused by "sickness
absence"… But behind that is the lack of workers -
something which has been raised by constituency MPs in
recent weeks. And then the "revisions" pushed through by
management in an attempt to make up for this, have just
caused more of a mess!
BETTER LATE THAN NEVER? SO THEY SAY...
In fact, CEO Simon Thompson did admit last week in a
company-wide video that RM doesn't have enough vans
for Xmas deliveries! He told DUMs to find the extra vans
they needed themselves. This is the postal service's
505th Xmas, so how many more Christmases do these
bosses need to learn how to manage?!
READ THE RULES?
So we might sound like a broken record, but the Elephant
(of RM-PFS fame) is getting on our nerves yet again, with
his divide and rule. As usual, he's now using the little
power he has to distribute favours to try to please F&F
(friends and family)... But as a result, people are
overworking. Someone should send him a copy of the
Working Time regulations.
PAT-HETIC
As for his other little power trip - under-distributing (over)-
diluted chemical products, bin bags and even toilet paper,
what can we say? His rationing - and thus petty costsaving
- gets him little bonuses, apparently... Not like a
real-life elephant at all.
WE'D MISS THE SNOOZE
We're missing our Working Time Sleeping nap time. Of
course, with the Omicron and all, they shouldn't start
anytime soon, but are managers planning to restart them
at all? We've heard them say that since we've got a
Shorter Working Week, they might cut WTS to save time...
And miss RM's propaganda? Shame...
NOT BAD
So the WTL room is now being used for us to get our
booster in-house? That's good news and shows that
when they want to, managers can display some common
sense, although we have to admit, it's a rare occurrence.
BOX TICKING EXERCISE
Oh yes, the company survey last month was even more
ridiculous than usual. We were asked during team
huddles to use RM's app and answer a few (just 5?)
questions, and that was that. Very useful, these team
huddles, really...
WHO PROFITS?
Monday was National Postal Workers' Day, and of course
politicians were "thanking" us all over social media… As
Omicron cases rise, Keir Starmer thanked us for keeping
people "connected" even as they "stayed at home". But
we were (and are!) at work, not for the "good of society",
but to make record profits for Royal Mail shareholders!
Perhaps that's what he meant...
A LOT OF HOT AIR...
The awards just keep rolling in for RM… this time it's for
"most sustainable, carbon-conscious carrier service". And
one of the main reasons? The 90,000 "feet on the
street"… yep that's delivery workers! (Although most of us
have two feet, so that should be 180,000 feet on the
street…) Apparently we're carbon neutral, but hasn't
anyone pointed out we also emit CO2? And all the more
so now as our walks get longer…
SANTA CLAUS COMING TO MP?
Oi! Where are our Xmas decorations and party and all the
rest?? We better not wait for management to do anything
about it!
