RMCtv : New Year Arrangements : Still awaiting a final decision from Ofcom about whether 1 January is a service day or not. Due 13 Dec
RM Communications
New Year Arrangements
We have recently picked up on some incorrect comments about New Year arrangements. Please note we are still awaiting a final decision from Ofcom about whether 1 January is a service day or not.
Due to the way the public holidays fall, we are requesting an exception for Saturday 1 January to be a non-working day. 1 January is generally a public holiday. However, in 2022, when this date falls on a Saturday, the following Monday has been designated as the official public holiday. This would mean that, in the absence of an exception from Ofcom, Saturday 1 January 2022 would be a normal working day for Royal Mail.
To allow colleagues to rest and recuperate after the busy peak period, Royal Mail also intends to observe the substitute public holiday on 3 January and, in Scotland, the additional substitute public holiday on 4 January.
The Ofcom consultation about an exception for Saturday 1 January runs until 13 December. We expect Ofcom to make a decision shortly after that.
Friday 24 December - Normal service day
Saturday 25 December - Christmas Day
Sunday 26 December - Boxing Day
Monday 27 December - Christmas Day Public Holiday
Tuesday 28 December - Boxing Day Public Holiday
Wednesday 29 December -Normal service day
Thursday 30 December - Normal service day
Friday 31 December - Normal service day
Saturday 1 January - New Year's Day - awaiting Ofcom decision to become a non-working day
Sunday 2 January - Sunday
Monday 3 January - New Year's Day Public Holiday
Tuesday 4 January - Normal service day (Public Holiday in Scotland)

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Yep, because it's all the fault of that pesky Ofcom...
Depressingly unsurprised that RM and the CWU have left it this late to start sorting something about. Two weeks to wait for a decision? That's great, that is, for anyone hoping to make plans. Way to go, further eroding of morale.

Aw, bless 'em, thanks....makes me feel all warm and fuzzy knowing they've got our backs...

Guaranteed all the top bosses from royal mail and cwu will be off that day. Why don't they come and help the "team" clear the office on that day!! Everyone should take a parental leave day or similar and show them the two fingers!!!

With Super SI in charge and Terry Bullshitter backing him all the way, its more likely that OFCOM say we don't need to work but RM and the CWU are pushing for us to work - after all there will be plenty of Christmas Cards and presents to get delivered.
Royal Mail
failing the workforce, failing the public and deliberately failing mail on a daily basis for too many years.

We have the right dates, but not necessarily, in the right year...
OPG
is there a reason its been left this late to sort out?
Simon 'Eric' Thomson
I think we just left it too late - to discuss with CWU & OFCOM - I wish I could give you a better excuse

I wouldn't mind betting a thousand quid that we're not working New Years Day

I won’t be working. Just spent £96 on football tickets. So they can compensate me with interest if they like. How late in the day is that to let employees know? People going length and breadth of the country visiting family for new year. Sounds like a wind up to me. Early April fools maybe?

I'm going to wager the real reason is up top were waiting to see how long they could keep assessing the CV, parcel predictions, staff sickness, and office failure rate levels before making a decision based on maximum profits and service level. Employee well being is bottom of the list, the new HR director made this clear.

So potentially all Royal Mail staff who choose to do the traditional drinking and partying and staying up later in the 31st might have to wait until 2nd just for Royal Mail. Hahahahahahahahahaha. If they make that happen then there is seriously more wrong at the top than what is already being shown. People will be coming in half drunk. What a company. What a last couple of years. What a crap job and lifestyle this has become. I’m planning on being GONE by July 2023 with a 4 month career break to see how I feel and how things go. Can’t bloomin (no G) wait. Good luck all you new starters for Xmas.

17:30 kick off, plenty of time, you could even take some lapse.Selhurst wrote: ↑30 Nov 2021, 16:47I won’t be working. Just spent £96 on football tickets.
