Cycling out to duty ?

Post by monkeybuisness »

I’ve been a postie at ######### DO for nearly 10 years and feel I need to ask other posties does this happen where they are, we currently have two blokes who do their duties as van shares but instead of travelling in the van they cycle to the first delivery point then cycle to the next loop and so on. Surely this shouldn’t be done like this as if an accident occurred who’s responsible, also at the end of duty they don’t come back to office they just give their PDA’s to their colleague and go home ? Also why is the union rep who also is the area rep letting this happen?

Can postmen use cycles to convey to their first point of delivery or on delivery?

No cycles should be used to covey, transport, travel anywhere on delivery or to delivery points unless it is part of an approved RMG duty Structure

How do you get there if you don't drive?

You talking to yourself now?

The litle voice in my head says it's the businesses job to get a non driver out to their walk.

The reason you can't is because the business has nothing in place to ensure that your bike is roadworthy and safe and not just a pile of junk.

Back in the day when the business used bikes they were supposed to be checked on a regular basis by the guy in the office who was trained to assess and repair the bikes.

Even in those days you were not allowed to use your own bike on delivery so it's a consistent business policy that makes sense. Nowt ridiculous about it.

I'm with you. It's daft. I don't have a car but fortunately I drive so it isn't an issue.
But I cycle to work in a morning. So if I'm starting at home and cycling to the beginning of the duty what the hell is the difference

What about when im cycling to work? They don't have anything in place then either, I'm leaving my home, to one place and that's it. Zero difference with people who are cycling from home to their first loop if that's where their work time is beginning, before that isn't anything to do with Royal mail. Don't wanna go into massively thats just my opinion on it, its not actually an issue for me

If you get no joy from your union try justsayit.

If you are travelling directly to your start point there isn't a difference, that would be acceptable but you would have to leave your bike at your first delivery point until you were finished.

However that is not what the OP is discussing.
currently have two blokes who do their duties as van shares but instead of travelling in the van they cycle to the first delivery point then cycle to the next loop and so on.
Travelling from the DO to your first delivery point and continuing to use your bike during delivery is what is not allowed.
