MRM.COM : We're trialling a faster delivery of faster deliveries of prescriptions in the post

A trial is underway that will see Royal Mail provide a faster delivery of urgent prescriptions and medication in the post.

We’re working with Echo by LloydsPharmacy, an online pharmacy with more than 400,000 patients, to give its customers in London and the South East a swifter service.

The trial paves the way for a same-day delivery service covering morning orders for urgent medication in the future.

We’re producing a feature film that will show the trial in action to be released later this week. Stay tuned on myroyalmail.com and look out on RMtv for that.

Initially, customers with time-sensitive requirements who are ordering at night will receive their deliveries a whole day earlier than they do now. Currently, orders received at night are despatched the following day and delivered to the customer the day after that. This innovative new service enables prescriptions fulfilled the night before to be handed over to Royal Mail in the early hours of the morning and to be delivered to the customer later in the day. Chief commercial officer, Nick Landon, says: ‘Our partnership with Echo by LloydsPharmacy to deliver prescriptions a whole day earlier is the first step in developing new same-day services that could bring much greater convenience and peace of mind to customers across the UK.

‘The faster delivery of medicines is another example of how we are supporting customers – especially those who aren’t able to leave their homes.’

In our feature film, we follow driver Andrew Phillips from Auriol Delivery Centre in Greenford in making a delivery to an Echo by LloydsPharmacy customer.

He says: ‘Due to Covid-19, people are working at home now, and it’s necessary to speed up deliveries. Royal Mail needs to keep up with competitors and we’ve got to be top of the list for deliveries.

‘We are doing our best to help with the Covid-19 situation. Delivering the medicine will help us jump to the top of the list for suppliers.’

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

We've already had a good few census letters passing through the machines. Don't know about the ones coming through as flats (the ones I'm guessing have got a printed copy of the form in as well), I'm guessing that they might be getting sent to DOs as direct trays

If i remember correctly last time they were totally random when they arrived in no particular pattern. Although a lot of people didn't bother returning theirs i was still delivering some in early may.

Our trial of faster prescriptions in the post with Echo by LloydsPharmacy moves us towards being able to offer same-day deliveries.

Chief commercial officer Nick Landon reveals how the time has to be now in this extended feature film on the trial, which began last week in London and the South East.

'The opportunity is now. If we don't do this - somebody else will. We are moving from accelerating prescription deliveries to same-day deliveries,' says Nick in the film.

Also hear from Echo by LloydsPharmacy COO Dominic Williams, Greenford Mail Centre - one of the sites processing the pilot volumes - John Doyle and Harrow driver Andrew Phillips
