Re: PDA van checks
Short version:
compulsory daily check. Tuesday check will be more in depth.
Managers will have to run defects past an out of office centre to determine of a van is roadworthy or not.
It should actually improve things.

Only bit that gets me is the more in depth checks on a Tuesday. I know it's apparently a time thing but Monday should be the day at the beginning of the week we should be doing the checks

Weekly checks. Every seven days. As long as it’s done on the same day every week what does it matter what day it is?

Re: PDA van checks
It's daily checks with a longer check on Tuesday. Tuesday is the mandatory longer weekly check. Offices have no flexibility in that.
Them's the facts, sorry.

I think the issue really surrounds reserves and cover staff.Zicomurphy wrote: ↑21 Feb 2021, 23:46Weekly checks. Every seven days. As long as it’s done on the same day every week what does it matter what day it is?
Usually you would take control of a duty and it's corresponding vehicle on a Monday.
Just for added piece of mind they would probably prefer to do the full check themselves rather than rely on someone else doing it properly almost a week before. Of course there's nothing stopping them doing a full check on the vehicle but obviously not officially.
Now if everyone can be trusted to do their job right not a problem but.... .

Re: PDA van checks
Suppose it doesn't really, however I would just prefer to do mine on a Monday after the van has been sat in a public car park over the weekend. Feel like it just makes more sense to do it at the beginning of the week

Re: PDA van checks
The DOM asked me what I thought, and I simply said, "It's your time... your paying me .... the more work you give me indoors the less work I can do outdoors"
I feel that's the mindset a lot of colleagues need to take. You haven't got to keep squeezing extra work like Double Prep, Households, Vehicle Checks, Vehicle Covid Cleaning, Training into the same small pot .... it simply spills over into your working day. And if you're not trying to carve up your duty to finish early you tell the DOM you've now got X ammount of extra work to do and you need some help. Too many of our colleagues have this attitude that they've got some extra work to do so ...... they'd better come in a bit earlier so they can get out at the same time.

Hope they have plenty of vans in reserve because I think half our fleet will have to be grounded on day 1.

Exactly the same at our place!
The howls of derision from the runaround squad was predictable but still highly amusing!
“Shorts,in this weather?!”
“If they’re bills I don’t want ‘em!”
“What’s she been ordering now?”

Re: PDA van checks
As far as the business is concerned we should be doing these checks already so it shouldn't add any extra time.Dorset Plodder wrote: ↑22 Feb 2021, 12:02We've had a small number of staff moaning about the ammount of time these checks will take..... fancy that.

Re: PDA van checks
In a way it's the same as yorks. In theory they're meant to be checked before use but in practice they never are as there isn't the time. If we we're they there'd probably be none left as they'd all be taken out of useMarshamp11 wrote: ↑22 Feb 2021, 15:08Hope they have plenty of vans in reserve because I think half our fleet will have to be grounded on day 1.

Re: PDA van checks
And HCT's - when did you last see a manager carrying out a weekly check on a HCT?SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑22 Feb 2021, 20:17In a way it's the same as yorks. Re: PDA van checks
Shouldn't it be the postie who checks the HCT then reports any faults to the manager?yellowbelly wrote: ↑22 Feb 2021, 21:45And HCT's - when did you last see a manager carrying out a weekly check on a HCT?SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑22 Feb 2021, 20:17In a way it's the same as yorks.
