Drab office

Post by robbertwhitton »

How does your office look? Just wondered what the state of delivery offices are around the country, ours is drab dull and depressing, out of date posters,a rest room with torn chairs,a cooker and microwave ,a yard you can’t swing a cat in,vans all squeezed in.,which makes loading a pain, people screaming to move your van cos they want to get out, while your sat having your break!!a dank depressing work place to say the least,i wonder what the public think of the lack of attention,I bet there are units the complete opposite of what I have put on here,

Inside it’s not too bad. Rest room had a bit of money spent on it. Posters about 2 years out of date. Toilets constantly getting blocked.

Outside is awful, trays and sacks all over the yard. I’ve mentioned before about a ramp we have and it’s a daily occurrence for things to fall off your york as you push it down, really infuriating. And no it doesn’t matter how you stack things, the ramp is too steep. It’s also only wide enough for 1 person so it’s a real bottleneck with 100 people trying to get down with their york and others trying to get backup, that’s if they don’t just leave it in the yard.

Not enough room for vans, constant stream of the big wagons coming in and out. A couple of managers parking their cars in the yard doesn’t help.

Inside 7/10
Outside 2/10

Overall 5/10...could do better, just like Royal Mail!
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

The biggest issue is the left over s**t from Royal Mail’s various failed continous improvement projects...

The walls are covered with macaroni pictures, random flow charts and photos of smiling sicophants who have since moved on to ruin other offices.

Ours is a crumbling mess half is unusable as the ceiling collapsed we sort outside half on the dock and half in a marquee (bake off tent ) which has taken up space on the dock for are Van's, toilets are like those at a 60s football terrace .
So all in all it a lovely place ..... well the pigeons love it

My office is a disgrace, it used to get a proper clean the floor used to be polished, now nothing gets cleaned only brushed occasionally, the loading bag is very dirty! There are pigeons above us when we are loading van up so we get shat on!

Also a few of the vans are over 10 years old, 1 Vauxhall van has water coming through roof which gets parcels wet! It’s been reported loads of times, the mechanic has put plops of silicon but still leaks!

Don't be too critical, soon enough that little s**t hole you work in will be houses after Royal Mail merge you with others on an industrial estate.
Embrace the hole as long as you can.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Our old hole was knocked down years ago and turned into flats, my parents bought one.
Their toilet was almost exactly where my old frame was.

I did kind of think that was the reply I was going to get it must be the same countrywide, premises being patched up just like the workforce, doesn’t inspire you though does it,only a few of us sit down in the canteen and have our break so not to worry about making it comfortable for them, and the tiny yard has its risk Assessment done so that must be ok,

I remember when every so often there was money allocated to the office which could be spent how you wanted! So a radio and various speakers were installed! Once privatised that all finished of course.

Think that was called something like "First Line Fix"

That would be the wonderful first line fix? We used the money to pay for tea coffee and milk! That was stopped ages ago,but wherever you go the offices do look a sad state, not much to be proud of,run down and poor state of repair, unless of course it’s an rmtv office, there it’s a different picture, everything shiney and new, smiley faces from workers(actors)

It's a craphole!
We use to be in our town centre in a grand old building, then we was shipped off to a place that reminds me of a Matalan outlet and is next to a f***ing scrapyard, when we moved the big plus point :left: was the car park was huge compared to the little one we had in the old building,it was great at first being able to park right on the car park and simply walk straight into work(this was pre van share) then van share came in and now hardly any bugger gets to park on it and we have to park our cars on a fairly busy road that results in broken wing mirrors on a regular basis.

Inside it's fecking souless and not fit for purpose, cramped frames, not enough room for all the tracked etc, the canteen is okay compared to some units I've been to, but the chairs are all stained to death with tea, coffee stains, we still have a canteen that supplies a breakfast which is only used by a few hardy people and people who arn't trying to get out super early in the morning stampede to make a few (or hour and a half minutes  ) so they can sock it to `the man.`

Like woody's office, we also have loads of stupid diagrams of stick figures showing you how to post a letter or how to not skid on dog s**t whilst delivering figurine monthly catalogues, that two tosspots was paid handsomely for months on end to educate the masses of posties who quite frankly, couldn't give a s**t, we also have a board of shame with the 10 worse performing duty's for complaints and as for the toilets they are a disgrace, the bog seats are broke alot, they get repaired and then somebody decides it good to purch on it like a budgie or something and the whole sorry episode begins again, i feel sorry for the young girl who has to clean it as a few of the traps have a fault in the pipe work and constantly gets blocked.
Royal Mail managers.....about as popular as a t.urd in a swimming pool!
The DDA/Equality Act demands action,NOT words......adjustments NOT Occupational Health referrals.Case No:2505901/09
Royal Mail is an Equal Opportunities Employer..It discriminates against everybody.

That's why this post worries me, our place is quite small and especially Nov/December there simply wasn't enough room, we ended up sorting large parcels outside, there's no talk of it yet but I'm dreading the day that I hope isn't coming when they announce we're moving to an industrial estate along with the next closest DO's which are both about 6-7 miles away in different directions.
