Kill-off stickers
Must be a good few newbies started recently as we're seeing a good few killed-off items missing them.
Apart from letters and flats all killed-off items need a red sticker.
All items being returned abroad need a pink sticker. Not every item going back abroad will be going direct, the ones that goto the big warehouses Heathrow way before entering RM's network, will get sent back to them warehouses and need a red sticker.

In my 22 years of RM and working in 2 DO's I have never seen a pink sticker!

Re: Kill-off stickers
Due to 'budgetary restraint' we are told there are no longer any red or blue crayons available in our office to mark addresses to direct our 'dead' letters to. Hence the return address gets marked with biro and the correct sticker filled in but still we continually see the same items getting returned again and again on the IPS. Yet another classic RM false economy, pathetic...

Re: Kill-off stickers
For any killed off mech letters if the return address is on the back and there's nothing else on the back that the machine could confuse as an a address then they can go back as mech items, provided that the back of the envelope is facing forward (so the camera sees the return address)Grinder64 wrote: ↑14 Feb 2021, 14:14Due to 'budgetary restraint' we are told there are no longer any red or blue crayons available in our office to mark addresses to direct our 'dead' letters to. Re: Kill-off stickers
We don't suffer from "Sticker Problems", Even the Morons I work with seem to be able to get their heads around them.... we've even got PINK stickers (No Blue Crayons though Grinder)
The problem we get is Redirected Mail coming back through the system, and ending up back where it started!
I like to imagine it's the Mail Centre Late Shift, tipping it back into the normal mail (the same guys that put a single letter into a mailbag and put a label & zip tie on it) just to brighten up their shift.
I'm sure SP has an explanation. I don't suffer as much from the problem as I make sure I put a couple of pen marks through the barcodes, which I'm told are used by the machines to sort the mail.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: Kill-off stickers
Redirected mail goes with whatever was used (SDs if originally an SD, Tracked if originally a Tracked, normals letters/large letters/packets for anything else. Are the problem ones items with a sorting code that's a letter followed by a two digit number?Dorset Plodder wrote: ↑16 Feb 2021, 16:19The problem we get is Redirected Mail coming back through the system, and ending up back where it started!I like to imagine it's the Mail Centre Late Shift, tipping it back into the normal mail (the same guys that put a single letter into a mailbag and put a label & zip tie on it) just to brighten up their shift.

Yep, the 2 orange barcodes need to be crossed through otherwise the machine will sort them back to the original addressDorset Plodder wrote: ↑16 Feb 2021, 16:19I'm sure SP has an explanation. Thanks for the reply SP.
I still like to imagine pissed off late shift workers trying to amuse themselves. Bit like the Amazon ones that send little items out in bloody BIG boxes!
Anything for a laugh.

Re: Kill-off stickers
same with people who put redirectionletters and large letters into packet bags instead of boxes so it all gets tipped as packets, we see that alot

Re: Kill-off stickers
Do both of them need crossing out completely or just a little bit of each?SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑16 Feb 2021, 19:26

Re: Kill-off stickers
You should see the amount of packets and letters (both mech and non-mech) that we get through from MCs that have FSMs

Re: Kill-off stickers
I have seen posties put the red stickers over the return address on parcels, how dumb is that? it will never get returned!
A little tip for everyone when using kill off stickers on parcels, you should place the sticker over the QR barcode of the returning item.
This is to prevent the PSM (parcel sort machine) reading the QR code & sending it back to your delivery office.
Also do the same for redirections and incorrectly addressed items. See examples:

Re: Kill-off stickers
But then, there will not be the chance to scan the parcel and create an entry on the tracking history to prove that the parcel has been delivered back to the sender (with the GPS co-ordinates), should they deny receipt!scooby69 wrote: ↑20 Feb 2021, 19:34A little tip for everyone when using kill off stickers on parcels, you should place the sticker over the QR barcode of the returning item.
