Is your office a complete shambles?

Post by Phantom »

My delivery office is a complete mess, boxes of mail stacked up, yorks full of packets etc. D2D's not being delivered.
Is this a typical delivery office?

I will take a guess and say that 90% of offices will say YES. Some may say complete/absolute or total shambles though.

No not like that at my office, it gets cleared everyday but the overtime bill must be eye watering.

What’s the reason for it stacking up, is it simply because they won’t pay overtime?

Sounds like ours - mail piling up, mainly catalogs and d2d some of which have offers with expired dates on. Even hospital appointment letters are getting delayed which is disgraceful. I wonder if the failed mail is actually being reported? As long as all the trackable items get delivered they don’t care. We had a lot of staff leave over the summer and none of them have been replaced. I just don’t get why they won’t hire some more bods with xmas just around the corner!

We are teetering on the edge of total shambles, walks are failing every other day but we seem to clear everything up by the end of the week. Our main problems at the moment is absorption as there is no time to do it and there is no one to give it to so it just sits there and piles up, and non tracked packets are starting to pile up as well because they aren't seen as a priority so are left behind. One day soon it's all gonna catch up with us...
My postman friend gets really angry when I tell everyone what he does for a living.

We are looking decent since a couple of weeks. However absences are not that bad at moment like 3 people long term off sick and maybe one more on top of it. We clear the office daily but a lot of stuff is done on the docket. We would not be clearing but we have a small army of overtime happy people.

I would say it's not shambles but definitely not a perfect one. I can't complain.

It will continue to pile up at every office soon, because as usual they employ casuals over this period mainly at the sorting centres but no extra staff to deliver.

We leave mail behind-Tracked gets done.
Overtime is like confetti here
Conservative estimate based on our depot -But company must be close to paying out 5 figures a day currently re Whole of the UK workforce.
Yet they cannot afford to give us a rise ??
Somewhat alarmed some depots still absorbing re E-Mails Why ???
Stopped here on the date it was suppose to all around the UK ?? so unclear why depots still doing it ??
D2Ds some get left, sure we not alone re that
Ageing workforce-fatigue/illness/injury will come into play.
Just to make some of you aware-Card Industry anticipating best sales in a decade, and Toy industry already been highlighted re national news likewise !!
Despite our efforts-like others say here -- not enough full timers/vans Covid seems to hitting us harder second time around ??
Social distancing re IPS frame and only one couple sharing a van here-everyone else Alone and that wont change until vaccine found !
Got a gut feeling, unless we working 24/7 - 7 days a week Christmas will fail in most depots
Any Bad weather will ensure that, no matter what we do !!
I can see us delivering cards and presents into the new year
We plug the gaps/firefight mostly every day to do the job
Never seen an Industry so reliant on Overtime, as we are

Overheard today that out office is running at around three times the normal parcel level, but I would say that is an underestimate and I am sure some places are worse.

Today was concentrate on all the packets that failed miserably yesterday, so tomorrow will have double mail and probably being swamped with packets again. The country is in for a massive disappointment from Royal Mail from now onwards. The whole set up within the company is a disgrace, the only thing worse is the total silence from the CWU.
Royal Mail
failing the workforce, failing the public and deliberately failing mail on a daily basis for too many years.

I am sure on average across all DOs nationwide we are handling double the amount of parcels we did same time last year. I wonder how bad it will get nearer to December.
