Sorry for your loss.
What a kind and considerate manager you have.
He doesn't have to treat it as a sick absence, unpaid Special Leave is a possibility depending on the length of the absence.
But even if it is classed as sick absence - no you don't have to worry about your job. Worry about yourself and dealing with your grief.
Not every manager in RM is as useless as your manager and some will understand the situation you now find yourself in.
You won't lose your job over this.
If you are in the union speak to your rep. If you are not a union member consider joining. Let them stand up for you.

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Sorry for your loss. Must be a very difficult time for you. At my office the managers would surely give you time off as special leave. A colleague had to have a couple of weeks off to sort her dads affairs out after he died and was told to come back when ready! Not sure if it was paid or not though but she definitely wouldn’t have lost her job. Speak to the higher up Dom who might be more helpful (or not) and if not speak to union if you get hassle. Hope you get treated as you should be!
