isn't it about time somebody made the decision to increase the opening times of the callers office. 7.00 - 9.00 was a tad strange but now more people are going back to work there seem to be more parcels being brought back to the D/O's. i personally had 9 today. maybe extending the opening to 11.00 may help to clear some of the parcels.

If they are at work , I would have thought an evening slot would be more appropriate. It will probably be reviewed soon , but I think it’s still a bit prematurekingdazzler wrote:isn't it about time somebody made the decision to increase the opening times of the callers office. 7.00 - 9.00 was a tad strange but now more people are going back to work there seem to be more parcels being brought back to the D/O's. i personally had 9 today. maybe extending the opening to 11.00 may help to clear some of the parcels.

Yeah, the notice lefts are starting to increase sharply.

An evening slot tracked delivery might be a answer.
The basic cost for a shoebox sized tracked 48 no signature seems to be around £4.
Royal Mail could offer an evening slot for 50p - £1 extra.
The label for a tracked 48 evening would be quite easy to spot as it would probably be able to say EVENING on it below the tracked no signature bit.
If we go to a 5 day post week, maybe this could save the jobs of some of the reserves. Instead of losing that position, those reserves and anyone else at bottom of seniority could come in at 2 and work until 8 doing tracked evening and even same day parcels.
Just an idea. I think Royal Mail must be one of the best suited delivery companies to be considering these changes as we have so much manpower. Anything really to win some contracts back from DPD, UPS and Hermes.

But who'd do the lapsed duties if the locker staff had to be in the locker?

What benefit is there for RM to reopen the customer service points?
It would cost money. It doesn't generate any income.

For some of the larger callers offices maybe RM could look into installing parcel lockers and give the option to collect from them (for items that arn't surcharge/customs charge items)

Ours has been 7AM-11AM during COVID. The problem was, though, that our 739's have had mixed messages, suggesting normal opening hours, Facebook and Google tell everyone we're open normal hours too. It's only our website that provides the right information.
It's mad because it's once again that whole trope of "I saw it on Facebook/Google. It MUST be right."
Then you break the news to them and the world ends.

I was told today the customer service points were reopening (but not on Sunday) but I haven't seen or heard anything official.

So I don't know how much of this to believe but .......
An office nearby is extending their callers office opening hours by local agreement as any changes had to be voluntary?
My colleague assumed we would be following suit but we are not.

Don't see how they would be allowed to do that.clashcityrocker wrote:So I don't know how much of this to believe but .......

The opening hours are displayed on the RM website and have to be approved.
Current P739's should have a sticker telling customers to check the RM site for current opening times.
It would be a really quiet duty if they are open and website isn't changed

Apparently changes to callers office times as of 27/6.
