Deliver to neighbour/safe place

Keep getting told in WTL we need to be doing this but I won’t be doing it anymore .I have been having complaints from neighbours for bothering them for someone elses parcel , complaint from a customer saying neighbour I delivered to didn’t have their parcel , I have since been back to address and neighbour confirmed he gave them their parcel . Now a complaint after I left a parcel in what I assumed was a safe place ( took photo ), saying they haven’t received it . No more from me I’ve tried my best , it’s all getting carded and coming back from now on .

It largely depends on the area and the location. On rurals you probably won't have any problems but on housing estates, and in towns and cities doing a P739 is the best way to be honest if no one answers the door. It just isn't worth taking the chance getting the blame when something goes wrong.

Yeah I agree except we are constantly told by manager to do this . Surely complaints and compensation payouts would be minimal if Royal Mail scrapped this policy and delivered to customer only .

There’s no time for it, and I’ve always treated it as guidance. Has anyone ever been taken through the conduct code for wilful failure to DTN?

Never do it. Waste of time. Big 'uns go straight back to the PO/DO if no-one's in.

If it's a recorded and it's small enough to go through the door and no-one's in I just sign for it. Never got pulled up on it yet.

To be honest what your doing by signing for items and posting them is more likely to get you in trouble

I'll be careful with that. I've seen posties get into trouble because the recipient complained for this very reason.

our manager is really pushing this at the moment too, he seems to think it will keep the changes coming away from our office.

It puts the postie in a compromising position, I haven’t heard of anyone being conducted over it and I would refuse to accept it anyway as it is now royal mails policy to do it .
