Help... I scanned a special outside the customers house, left p739 all correctly last saturday. The customer came to collect yesterday and it had not been scanned back in the office. However i know it has been handed back in as it is not in the bags or van.
The manager has now said I can be fired for this, despite me doing nothing wrong.
Is this correct?
Please help thank you.

Do you remember putting a sticker on it with your details when you got back?

Not your problem, if like you said above "it's been handed in" it's been handed in, not even sure why you would even check the bags if you where sure it was handed in?Polly1 wrote:However i know it has been handed back in as it is not in the bags or van.
It was handed in & job done is your answer, forget about it.

why are they left at the door ,you should sign them in as returned and hand them to a member of the cage staff , I think your mangers do not have the right procedure In place if not , don't worry

Do you not have to fill a sheet out listing the 739’s you have done and hand that in at the callers office when you drop them off?

We don't fill in a sheet, we just sticker them & hand them in, no sheet & then go home

Don’t worry about it , stick to your story that you handed it back at the end of your duty .It often happens that the person in cage mislaid it and it eventually turns up .

What's all this sticker business?
I've worked for RM for over 24 years and it's always been the case that returns either put in yorks (Tracked, Recorded, and normal packets respectively) and Specials get put in through the cage window. Job done.

Thank you all for your replies.
We write on the parcel that it is a p739 and the route number, date ect.
We leave the parcels at the office, and they are then usually scanned back in. The manager is saying that because that scan never happened the last known person to have it is me, and therefore the blame lays on me. Very worried as he says depending on what the customer does I could be sacked. :(

As long as you have stuck to office practice on disposal then the fault lies with the office procedure. I think your office manager should be getting sweaty, not you.

It's difficult to prove anything. I very much doubt you'll be sacked; keep to your story you handed it in and it'll be a wrap on the knuckles. Are you sure you handed it in? Did it possibly fall out of the van? Or was it a letter possibly left in a tray? The latter has happened a few times in our office and it turns up again once it's been round the system. ALWAYS make a mental or even physical note of specials. How many you have, where are they and are they being returned; particularly if they're on your loops and you've scanned them.Polly1 wrote:Thank you all for your replies.

lost count of the number of times someone from the locker asks what a certain item looked like and can i remember bringing it back as if to say i've lost it!
i then used to question myself thinking i may have, now i just say yes i brought it back and think nothing more of it
they never ever come back later to say they found it either
