Annual Leave should be made simple

Here's an idea. Why don't Royal Mail set up a portal online where we can all log in and see what holidays are available and book them as and when needed? Other companies already do this like Ocado. It's so simple to do and will save a lot of time and money. Royal Mail are so far behind the times when it comes to annual leave. We are living in the digital age now. Why are we having to write on a piece of paper our weeks holidays, 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice, 12 months in advance? Ridiculous! And why can't we book odd days? I have to book whole weeks then cancel the days I don't need! Pathetic!
Sort it out Royal Mail!

Gives managers something to do in the quiet days leading up to seasonal pressure or whatever it's called nowadays...........

Fair systems will never work as some staff never want to play fair.
We have tried countless systems like rotas, groups etc but the same people every year cause chaos by forcing their way into premium weeks/top picks when it's not their turn. Or the people who always seem to have a once in a lifetime family event that they can't get out of during half term etc, every, single, year.

I don't understand why holidays are carried over and we are simply told there's no room for us to use holidays we are entitled to
I've never worked at a company with such a shocking holiday system. Just waiting for managers to tell you no. I'm sure they don't even bother looking sometimes

Toooooo much of a good idea.....write to the courier.....but guarantee will get a negative answer because they wont accept change....but we have to!

The holiday system is awful. How can anyone plan a year in advance especially when you have weddings, Other special occasions. Seems like the holiday sheets get earlier every year.

Thats your office and it must be well run. Try working in one where every day applied for is rejected, applied for my sisters wedding 8 months in advance and and althoughn was taking it off no matter what, they left it till the week before and told me i could have it as my day off that week. not annual leave. Its the forced carrying over of leave from year to year which is a disgrace and honestly dont see how its even lawful.

Would be good to have such a system in place though.

Heres another idea which alot will not like!....How about emailing our wageslips??....I give 2 reasons.

1. It will save our trees good for the environment.

2. My misees can't see what i earn

Always allowed our leave in our office whether a week or single days even with short notice....we book in advance but our manager is very accommodating to changing it nearer the time we know what we want to do with the holiday booked
