Van shares

We’re having issues in our office with our manager refusing to allow two full timers to sign into a van share.
Does anyone else have two full timers signed into a van share? If so could you reply with your office name please?

i'm paired with a fellow FT driver, and several others are too, DOM may be looking at the logistics of keeping the balance right, all sorts of things can be thrown in to the pros & cons, for 1 my partner and i have different days off, so the cover doesn't have to be a FT driver, he is, but is utilised when stuck for a driver elsewhere, which makes sense as long as they allow time for someone to be on my duty they've never done before, which never happens

There is absolutely no reason why two full timers can’t work on a van share together, there’s 6 full time pairings at my office. All it means is when one is prepping the two walks the other full timer does something else, ips, pkts or preps a part timers walk.
The actual delivery isn’t a “part time” delivery as they are all meant to be the same

Many of the van shares in my office are both full-time, and they tend to be first out of the office because once the IPS is done the sorter can return to their frame and tie up and leave, whereas the van share s with a part-time can get behind because the part-timer starts later

unless it's the chosen ones who do outdoor overtime but only if they can still finish on usual time and also get exempt from lapsing

This is our thinking too. Having spoken to someone who has a background in employment law it is also anti discriminatory to insist you can’t have two FT’s together. I’ve had to put a grievance in to our Dom.

In the office I work we have a lot of posties who are
full time and van share,
They are always first out and first back which is rubbish for us part timers!
I do know that one of the full timers per frame always have to do packets.ips and they are meant
To prep part timers walks which is rarely done!

Yes there are quite a few at my office, but there's no way I'm giving you which office it is. Why would I put my neck on the line for someone on an online post forum?

I don't think any of us will be willing to write the name of the DO we work at on here as all social media including this site are closely monitored by RM. Our previous DOM knows my identity on here but I don't think it goes further than that. Nevertheless RM probably don't appreciate my posts so I can't really tell you.
Our DO is small but we are mostly all full timers with two recently switched to four day duties by choice. We have two pairs of shared duties so four posties and they are all full time five day week. I don't see why your DOM can give any reason for this not to be so in your office. We don't have anyone doing double prep in our DO as everyone does their own then go out on delivery. We are probably the last of the ' old guard ' and have chosen to defend and keep all our full time jobs. This has resulted in our walks being a lot longer than every other DO in our area which is quite a lot of DOs.
Your DOM should be able to access information on how other DOs are run and know that other offices have pairs of full timers on shared van walks. Logically speaking I would think it best to either have two part timers or two full timers in pairs so they both have the same start & finish times.

All of our duties are paired full timers.....the part timers only cover sick leave or holiday. No double prep. half an hour of morning ips, then tie up and get the hell out with absorption only if you have time. We are quite lucky in some respects.

Last year our office went to all van shares being one full time and one part time. Since then a few people have left and now 4 of the van shares regularly have two part timers on them - none have two full timers.

ok the office where I work pairs mostly full timers and part timers together , there are exceptions, indoor work, mostly all full timers prep all part time walks, until the
primary is up, this should be at least all mail and DTD into frames then back to your own walk, the time taken to prep mail packets , re-dis. the part time workers are in packets up and re-dis done, they leave the office slightly before the full time workers ,its usually a happy status quo , then we have a very experienced manager who does not use bullying tactics and usually tries to keep a harmony in the office . after the part time full time caper is only a few years old to my dismay this should never have happened in royal mail. ............

What's the problem if you can't have 2 FT together?

Maybe your manager has noticed full time pairings leaving 30-60 minutes before anyone else and has decided to stop it?
