Tracked items and the 5 year plan

I've just had it clarified from very senior management in processing that the plan is only to remove LAT tracked items and tracked items above shoe box size from the normal delivery pipeline along with the standard parcels above shoe box size.

They do not intend to remove all tracked items and move those to the LAT hubs. So all those routers, contact lenses, tickets phones and various other bits and pieces will still be in our bag.

That was the plan, it was always ALL items above shoebox size be it standard, tracked or signed for

There was confusing surrounding the press release both in the union and management over whether all tracked items would go through the super hubs, at the moment all they're clarifying is that small and medium tracked will still end up on delivery, what they're still not saying is whether they'll still be sorted through the mailcentre network.

From Martin Walsh:
All Divisional Reps and Postal Executive Members were given a presentation by Achim Dunwald second in charge to Rico and his team and this involved Mckinseys consultants who developed the 5 year strategy.

They confirm all parcels wider or big than shoes box size and also smaller tracked 1 & 2 smaller tracked were in the Separation from normal deliveries strategy.

If numbers 3 & 4 refer to larger parcels then surely 1 & 2 refer to smaller items and in Martin Walsh's post he mentions Tracked 1 & 2. I think I would be more likely to believe Martin Walsh over any member of upper RM management. With pointers from this forum I have sorted out the problem over using the All Star supermarket card in non-supermarket petrol stations. Our DOM contacted higher RM management and they had no idea whatsoever. I genuinely feel a lot of the higher management and chief executive couldn't run a **** up in a brewery. Handing over major decision making for the future direction of RM to consultants mirrors when they decided to change the company name to Consignia. Some things never change.

If you were working for RM a number of years ago back when we used bikes you might remember seeing or using a piece of yellow metal with a rectangular hole in it. That hole was the shoe box size. Alternatively when you next buy a pair of shoes or trainers or get new footwear from RM the box they come in is shoe box size. No sarcasm intended. It will cover quite a lot of the bulk that currently arrives in DOs. This in turn will lessen the efficiency of many DOs & MCs which will result in a lot of amalgamation and probably staff transfers to LAT hubs and other sites or job losses.

Watch the latest video from Terry Pulinger on the union board. The first month of talks were delayed due to annual leave but has finally finished. RM are not willing to budge an inch on anything so the mediation will start soon with industrial action starting at the end of September I would guess.
BA staff have just been successful with their threat of strike action so maybe we need to plan strikes for closer to Xmas.

It's possible that the source is telling lies of course but then what would be his motivation telling lies to a bunch of low level reps?
It's also possible he doesn't know what he's talking about but given his level of involvement and responsibility with regards to the implementation of the super hubs it doesn't bode well if he doesn't even know what the hubs will be processing.

If you step back from it and think about it logically why would RM send tracked items that fit through a letterbox out with an afternoon delivery that might have to drive 5-10 miles just to stick it through said letterbox? You could understand LATs if the customer has ordered it late at night for next day delivery but a normal tracked?

Well if this is how it was done in the 'good old days', ie no oversized being taken out, why is everybody dead against it happening when all you seem to get on here is 'park and loop f'ked us all over?'

A) It will remove work from the majority of DOs and mailcentres. Work=Jobs.
B) Do you think they'll just take the large parcels off your duty and leave you to it? It will mean less indoor work and larger and longer deliveries.

Possibly the first step towards having all Tracked deliveries having time slots, possibly with the hubs also doing SDs in the morning (worth RM axing 9am SDs?)

Wow tough day hope you are feeling ok. This is a good job but its not easy on the body. The new plan should not make no odds to you no way can you do more work.
