Getting rid of a duty

Can they get rid of someone's duty when there off sick?Someone's been off in our office for a couple of months.Waiting for an operation.But the DOM and union rep have now got rid of the duty!Can they do this?

The duties don't actually belong to posties. We sign for them but RM can do what they like with them at any time.

Surely it'll just be unlapsed when said postie returns? We lapse the walks of those on long term sick usually untill they return, saves on the rows I guess!

Why would the manager give the duty back to the postie coming back from the sick, if everything was going ok within everyone else's time for lapsing. Surely the office needs hours out of it. See the can of worms and the pressures that doms are under when their management come to them and say the exact same thing. I don't feel one bit sorry for them as they took the job and an delivery office runs itself basically. All you need is a dom/supervisor and bookroom/leave postie. All the linos are not needed unless a mpu or really big office.
