rotating days off for part time staff

Post by shar2864 »

Our office works on a rolling rotating day off, excluding those reserves who need to change about a bit,i only work 2 days a week now(past 4 years) due to knee surgery and work in the office, currently i work a MondaySaturday one week then Mon/Tuesday the next this is due to to the other person who does opposite days to me who has had child care issues in the past (they had this verbal agreement with the person who did my job before they retired)which after i had waited 4 years i am sure these child care issues has now come to an end,i have applied to go back to rotational days off 18 months ago and up to now neither Royal Mail/HR/or the Union will make a final decision on this,I have not signed any contract to work this pattern and find it unfair and its been going on too long.Is there any clarity on this anywhere i wonder?

Sounds like you already have a rotating day off. You work 1 in 2 Saturdays as opposed to 3 in 4 or 5 in 6 in other offices. If you have issues with working the Monday then talk to you manager or talk to your coleague who works the other 4 days a week.
I doubt they will see you case as a priority as you only work two days unless you flag a genuine issue with working the Mondays. Put a written request in and keep a copy. If you dont hear back then inform union rep and potentially follow the grievance procedure.
