aye to May 8th. to coincide with the 75 years marking the end of the war. only the 2nd time they've done it in history.

it's been decided to move the monday off so no long weekend or at least a weekend worth having and give us a day off in the week. Pointless really, if the powers that be wanted to remember the 75th aniversary the could have added Friday.

Given your username I would have thought your clubs connection with the armed forces you would have a different view on

We are changing to a five day week operation in 2020 although it probably won't be set up by May of that year. The 'system' has never liked the May Day bank holiday given its association with workers rights.

VE day could be any time in the context of things the war ended when Hitler shot himself in the head on the 30/04/1945 troops of nations who were forcibly conscripted or other wise fought on till the 16/05/1945 in parts of Europe which is why the Russians it is may 11 but whatever definition it is should be a celebration of those that gave their own lives without a thought to dates but a just cause and the end of hate and intolerance and what has been our happy time in Europe no wars free travel and vice versa and trade without tariffs. Building walls and tariffs can only undo all the good that those brave men did we are all citizens of the world but others will pray upon prejudices and hate of our fellow Europeans and make no mistake plenty of Polish and other pilots died defending our nation and made this all happen for us to claim victory as the British Empire dissolved over night and we are not masters anymore but the 51st state of the USA!
