Im getting quite 'down' on all this future news from our employers. Ive had crap job after crap job for the last 17 years, then when i finally get one i quite like they decide to get rid of 20000 staff and close all the small offices down.
Wondering if i should just throw the towel in now before the inevitable happens anyway.

There are no compulsory redundancies in Royal Mail so hang in there and fight.

They aren't going to get rid of 20 000 staff.
The headcount reduction, if it happens, will be over several years and is probably in line with the current levels of attrition anyway.
There are no plans for compulsory redundancies.

And if they move your little office into a big office then think of it as an opportunity to meet new people, maybe get more overtime and get bitten by different dogs in different areas of your town/city/whatever.
If you like your job now, then there is no reason you can't carry on liking it.
Focus on the positives.

going from a 3 minute stroll to work to a 25 minute hell filled commute with no parking at the end (unless you wanna pay 7 quid a day)-not much positive there

I’m sure you get some sort of allowance for that.

Ive been working here 14 years. I've never known anybody paid off, only people that have left do so at there own will or retire.

I wouldn't worry.

I would say to try and remain upbeat if possible and try not to worry about it or get stressed as that is not good for your health. As posties we don't have that much control over what could happen except to fully support national strike action if it comes to that. More small bits of information are leaking through but I won't write those here.
It is a long term plan and even if RM get away with pushing it through we potentially have a few years before it happens. Looking at it with optimistic eyes I don't think the maths in terms of time match up so any trials are likely to bury the proposal. The entire proposal is planned to lose 8000 jobs with additional measures taking that up to 20,000 jobs. Keeping our jobs is the top priority with the union so they will fight it tooth and nail.
Last year I think the figure was 9000 posties left the job of which 67% left voluntarily. So taking that stat into consideration any postie that wants to stay in the job should be able to. Given all the business that will be lost from the main DO network they will be seen as less productive so there will be much more amalgamation of DOs into other sites.

That a bummer for you but i doubt the R/M would pay us any before work and after work travel time but if they do i will go the long way.

Would you get another job that is a 3 minute walk from home? I don't think you would, easily.

25 minute commute is still a pretty reasonable ask, still well below what many others have to do. And with RM, you will be handsomely reimbursed for the time/money taken to commute to your new office.
