Spoke to quite a few posties yesterday in our DO about this latest RM future plan announcement.

Most of them did not even know about it (seems they just threw their "colleague update" sheet straight in the bin) or they "had heard something" but didn't care because "it will never happen" or "will not affect our office"

It is a similar situation to the last pay deal negotiations in that both sides sought to keep us in the dark. Barring the 'colleague update' sheet, which doesn't contain the full facts, anyone who wanted to find out what was coming had to actively seek it out on places like this forum. Until fairly recently even the DOMs had no idea this was on the cards. The main proposal was leaked onto this forum in February and a little while after Terry was saying it was all rumours even though RM had informed them about it already. Now Terry is saying in addition to the 8000 job losses from the parcel proposal the 'efficiency' target will make the total job losses up to 20,000.
There will be up a month of negotiations on the proposal now as it breaks the Four Pillars agreement etc. If that reaches an impasse there will be a month of mediation talks then if that doesn't settle it we will be balloted for strike action. So I would say we will be on strike in September when the mail picks up to the usual high levels. Not that we don't have plenty to do anyway.

It was the same in my DO, no one bothered to listen to the announcement and there was no talk of it afterwards, they were more concerned about getting out the door as quickly as possible so they could get a flyer.

I mentioned it to our union rep and he didn,t know anything about it.
