Ok its for parcels, i wonder who there gonna get to do it? The collections /LAT staff being redeployed?
Does this mean there not going to collapse as many walks after all?

The plan is for the parcels to go to current LAT units.
If you are currently a LAT office there will be increased LAT duties. If you are not you will simply lose the work, the hours and the jobs.
Even within a LAT unit there will be less packets to sort and deliver within the core delivery operation - meaning less work, less hours and less jobs.

Whether the current figure being bandied about of 8 000 jobs to go is accurate is anyone's guess.

No if we have less parcels to deliver then surely they'll collapse more walks.

i think the aim is to get more small parcels and packets in the core delivery so they stay the same length once the larger stuff has been removed.

Network extension:
» Usual combined letters and small parcels delivery will continue as is.
» Will introduce a second daily delivery for larger items and parcels purchased online from retailers the evening
before. This will be fully operational by 2023.
» This will reduce the cost of handling all parcels, including small items.
We have told our union about our plans: committed to working collaboratively with our unions on the strategy,
detailed design and deployment.

As is, as in no collapsing of current walks?

It is not a second delivery or at least not as long standing posties remember the second delivery to once be. One in six walks will be collapsed and that work divided by the remaining five. The time it will take to deliver this additional work will likely be more than any time savings you will make from delivering a number of large parcels to addresses you will deliver to anyway. I think RM want to cover the shortfall in time needed to complete duties by introducing additional automation in MCs so each walk gets all their packets and small parcels sorted into Yorks. Even so I still don't think the time will match to the work.
The last we heard from the CWU was that if RM announced this proposal as going ahead then the union would immediately ballot for a national strike.

So what happens to the postie who's walk is the one chosen to collapse. Are they made redundant, or are they forced to change duty hours to deliver the parcels for the five walks laterp afternoon / evening?

Easy to find. Go to the 'stickies' section on the 'Blue Shirts' page. Second entry down should be 'Royal Mails game changing parcel strategy' or something like that. The OP is Martin Walsh. Read the initial post on there. If you are a relatively new postie you could be one of the 8000 to lose their jobs.

And martin walsh is?

from the colleague update;

'Demanding change programme, carefully sequenced over five years:
We anticipate an hours reduction of around 3% a year. Committed to working carefully and considerately with
our unions and our colleagues. Good track record of delivering change sensitively through natural turnover,
redeployment and voluntary redundancy wherever possible. In line with current agreements, will continue to
deliver change without compulsory redundancies.'

Martin Walsh is from the CWU as far as I know.
Do you think it will be possible to 'lose' 8000 staff within three years from natural turnover, redeployment, & voluntary redundancy alone ? In my experience once staff are used to the job they mostly don't leave. Most staff leaving are new people who saw the postman on EastEnders and thought it looked like a doddle.

Anyone who is currently 55 will have a retirement age of 67, So 12 years still to work.
I wouldn't get excited about a "nice vr payment" either.
