I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

What is there for the union to oppose? They agreed to it years ago (think it was the Pay & Mod agreement) so RM are quite within their right to enforce it

Why do people moan at working all the hrs they're paid for?? If you were paying someone to do a job, you'd want em to work all their hrs.

Nothing to fear if you are doing all the correct things and not ghosting or going home early. It can back up claims of going over your time too, they have to find evidence whereas before they could just assume you were 'slow'

I see nothing wrong with making people work all the hours they are paid for. If anything it could even out all duties to stop some finishing at 12pm and others out until 5pm.

Why would the Union want to oppose it? I may be wrong! Could somebody explain the apparent downsides.
So what if they can tell where you are, keep your nose clean and just do the job your paid to do and nothing more.
Accept that job and finish is thing of the past and the true reality of delivery duties would be evident, cannot see RM benefitting much out of it to be honest - financially. Would it not bring some uniformity to ALL the posties?- certainley not a bad thing if B&H along with the constant intimidation was reduced, and even better if it was removed completely.
With strict reference and adherence by both RM & posties to the PDA actuals surely many will see the benefit of less intimidation at work and those with nothing to hide should have nothing to fear. Go to work, do your shift and go home with less hassle would be a godsend to many posties, just what most want to do at the end of the day.

Sick of this same crap all the time. How hard is it for people to understand that you have a start time and a finish time and in between you have a break time. The amount of people in my office that show complete disregard to warnings from the union about starting early, not taking the meal relief and going round the duty like their training for the Olympics is unreal. The new starts are the worse for it, even though they have been in long enough to be up to speed they are in trying to impress management 20/25 minutes before their shift starts. I realise the pda wont show this but its about time something was done about the posties who are bringing those of us who do the job properly down by undercutting us by starting early etc. sickens me. :evil/mad

Have people log in to their PDA`s when they get in to work. Show how long they are actually in work.

But like the geezer says, starting before your time, no meal breaks, running around etc. will not show on the pda. And yes it will be their fault if they get more so all in all it down to all of us to educate these people before they get f****d in the ass!

did none of you listen to martin??? people coming in early. not taking their breaks, not using the correct methods, ie using trolleys, the PDA'S will not capture this!!! and they will use it as a stick to beat you with!!! what they will use, is postman A can finish in this time, postman B is 45mins later...conduct??? most of you will know, if they is a right way and a wrong way to capture data, royal mail will chose the cheaper option, no matter what!!!

I'm not sure how you can get Posties to work all their hours and get increased productivity out of them..... I think you would get less productivity. By allowing them to finish early they have an incentive to work their balls off to get home to watch Rachel Riley on Countdown. They overwork themselves due to this incentive.

How about....

You get paid a fixed salary of £xx,xx for delivering up to a max of 100KG of mail a day, 5 days a week. If you wish - you will be assigned a job as close to your home address as possible. You start at XX time and you finish when you have returned the PDA + non-delivered/docket left etc mail to the depot. ie. There is no set finish time.

What you are suggesting is akin to walk ownership. Knowing RM they would constantly move the goal posts. One year it will be 100kg. Next year 110Kg and so on. Then what about reserves and floats, Sick days and holiday. The current set up works just fine.

As for productivity. It would increase as they would be utilising someone for 100% of their time. If you look at it from managements perspective all they are seeing is numbers. How much mail was delivered successfully, How many hours did that take, How many hours did we pay etc.

Even if we forget the daily runners and meal skippers (Who do us all a disservice) There are days when even without trying I get back to the office with up to an hour spare (Though rare), often 30mins. But then there are also days which we are on the bones of our ass having to cut off and have OT fill in the gaps. I see no problem with them asking us to maybe prep the next days D2D's, Utilising the walk data to even up the duties etc. If it means people start using "methods" properly then from and H&S perspective thats a good thing. Win WIn all round. Use methods and work to time then good for you. Still get back early and be utilised up until your time then good for RM.

It's seems mad that on a light Tuesday I can get back early and leave D2D's and then Wednesday have to cut off. When the difference was potentially that prep time.

I think if they are sending people back out they would run into trouble. One duty could get back 5 mins from the next and end up having 30mins extra walking added and the next being sent home or indoor light work. It would cause trouble thats for sure. Defo would lead to people stretching their duties out and cause animosity between colleagues.

Royal Mail should stick to their guns PDAs are the way forward IMHO data capture is great shows you who is actually doing the work ,sick of fellow staff finishing 2 hrs before me on the same pay because they have seniority !!!! I believe in seniority but not when walks are so uneven in workload.
