Fixed duties?

Post by Celgar »

Usually every walk will have a 'regular postie' signed to it and that postie would generally expect to stay on that walk most if not all of the time. Generally as a rule the longer service a postie has the less likely they will be moved to another walk especially if not many posties have been trained on that walk. Training posties to know more walks costs RM money and they hate that.

Fixed duties?

Just talking to a postie from another office, 5 duties rotating, a week on each, 6th week as floater. He said any fixed duties were taken out and are not allowed now? How can offices differ so much!

Fixed duties?

Every office should have planned duties (fixed, link, annual leave cover) agreed with the union. It is a constant battle to primarily retain these and the personnel allotted to them and secondly to at least keep the same levels of part time/full time duties as agreed. By default management wish to have complete flexibility from every employee whereas the union wish for limited flexibility for the work force. They also as we know would wish to employ everyone on as near to zero contracts as possible in their ideal world, that's where most of union/management conflict is centred around. In order to have a starting point for potential grievances to press for as near to the plan as possible you must have a classification of all duties and a breakdown of the hours of those duties in your office.
