Whats this final week going to be like?

Relatively new but in this final week coming does the volume of mail/packets and parcels increase further, or will there be a levelling off from say the week just gone?...or is there just no way of predicting what we will be dealing with?

More SDs as the week progresses for those last minute panic purchases, parcels to plateau by midweek and then drop, crazy amounts of last-minute cards.

First part of the week will be mainly normal packets then from Tuesday onwards tracked and prios will go through the roof.

Christmas cards will keep coming in till Mid Jan.

Best advice is to expect the worst and anything better than that is a bonus. Too many blokes go round saying “ah that’s it - it’ll drop off next week and all be over by midweek” and are then as miserable as sin when that scenario doesn’t play out as psychologically they have switched down and can’t get back up for it. Also don’t listen to any managers saying that the MC is clear - it’s bullshit and you get a nasty surprise the next day. As I say expect it to be busy and you’ll be fine.

On the Thursday and Friday nights Tracked will probably insane and MCs might well have anyone whose SD locker trained helping out in their SD lockers

then straight after Christmas we have all the held back junk that will pile through, plus a ton of parcels that people have purchased on the sales, plus between 3 and 6 door2door contracts, and of course the thick holiday brochures. in my past experience January can be even busier than Christmas. happy new year everyone

Absolutely Shite with a Capitol S...Here’s the joke in our office muppet of a manager says you can’t claim overtime if your leaving a loop/bag of mail...average going over this past week anything between 1 hour on some days to 1 and half other days to an horrendous 2 hours this past Friday 14th...offered to go over an hour but leaving a loop no says manager you can’t claim overtime if you are leaving mail...bollocks then we will bring mail back so delivery failure for him there’s no negotiation...trouble is yesterday sat 15th left a loop then went over an hour claimed an hour on sheet managers all gone home doubt if I’ll get paid...my partner who runs her own business says they can’t not pay you by law...PDA will show still scanning items while out on delivery past the official finish time and logging out of PDA back at office...Any thoughts? Or similar circumstances where you work?

Probably be horrendously busy from Wednesday because of the poor weather this weekend so people who were going to buy their Christmas presents at the shops probably stayed home instead and did their shopping online.

why do you continue to do OT when manager has made his position very clear ? (idiotic though it is)

Manager trying to intimidate you into working the full round. Next time they say that, ask for it in writing as you're putting in a grievance. They can't make up the rules, hold them to account.

If you work it, you get paid it. Simple.

My own thoughts exactly,expect the worst and anything less is a bonus, judging by the amount of cards that we collected Thurs/Fri collections on delivery compared to last week or so seems that folk are posting them later,I'd agree I reckon there'll be plenty right up to Xmas Eve and beyond.

I suspect it's gonna be crap in the early part of the week and will steady off as the week goes on; Specials will go through the roof as the week goes on though. No real way of knowing though, our mail centre is failing constantly which doesn't help things.

Can't see it dropping off at all. I've a feeling Christmas Eve will be horrendous. Monday is usually one of our busiest days of the week and I expect it to be even worse - I reckon they will have had all weekend to give the mail centre a good clear out.

If that's the case. My office better get themselves organised. I have been bringing back 2-3 loops back a day. If they think I'm going over Christmas eve they are in for a shock.

Plus we have 5 D2D's next week just to add to the load. Happy days. Excited for Christmas Eve though and the manager's face when I announce I won't be going over my time. It's a picture every year when I do this. Love it I do.
