Hypothetical mail failure

If our office failed some streets on four walks one day, it would apparently be a USO failure.
However, if we were told to stream any mail (1st, 2nd, mailsort etc.) and place them on top of our frames
then this would only be a work plan failure even though some of the mail that would be streamed
would mean that some premises wouldn't receive any mail that day.
What is the difference?

"Streaming" isn't allowed and it's probably also a USO failure anyway

It's all Managemnt Bullshite Bronx..... Smoke & Mirrors to make their paperwork look good. As previously mentioned it's a Mangerial Problem, just make sure you cover your arse by doing the job right.

A DOM tried to explain to me years ago that provided "Some" Mail was delivered to each post code on a duty then it couldn't be classed as a Failure. "So what you're saying is if I walk down the high street, and then just nip down each side street with a few letters.... the USO has been fulfilled"? In theory YES was his answer.

What seems to be more prevelant in my DO is the effort that's put in NOT to fail any duties completely. They'd rather fail half of several duties. I believe it's more something to do with the DOMs Bonus, than failing the USO. Some of the things that go on in DOs can only be discovered by having a Snap Audit..... and when was the last time you had one of those?

I was told by my DOM if mail is left in the frame it counts as a failure! If mail is brought back it counts as a failure! If mail is left under the frame it doesn't count as a failure

Asked for this instruction in writing and was refused so i brought the matter up at WTL and the instruction was repeated in front of the whole office so i've got plenty of witnesses when it hits the fan

I can't see what the problem is. We've all been told for years that the mail's dropping off.

I know we're getting more packets (especially those Little Bloody China Post ones), and I suppose we may be getting less "Letters" as such, but I still get sheds loads of catalogues. I think RM should Fess Up and actually make clear what they mean. I presume they don't count our Competitors Mail (DSA) as mail? In which case get our Marketing Department, or whatever they call it, and EVERYTIME we lose a contract chase it up and find out why.

If someone's undercut us ... then undercut them and put the Bastards out of Business, because sod's law they're going to rock up at their nearest Mail Centre and get us to deliver it for them!

I'm just a Postie FFS but surely we've got some people with Business Brains. Perhaps we had the Monopoly for too long, and nobody learnt to do their job properly?

I heard the same just last week. Lapsing walks failing all around because there's no-one to go on the duties, but so long as a single walk takes lapsing from the frame it doesn't really count as a failure. So the lapsing continues into December

The latest rumour ive heard is that if someone needs to cut off due to excess packets, they have to leave mail and instead deliver the packets... And then find out the next day that the"cut off" mail hasn't been touched...

Yep I've heard that before as well....... they prioritise the Packets/Parcels because they can be scanned.......... and probably effect the DOMs Bonus!

As for finding the Mail that you left behind still on your bench........ just throw it off again and repeat your Over Running Procedure (Cut Off). Don't feel pressured into taking it all the second day...... In fact just keep repeating the process. In the past the DOM has said to me, "I realise that you'll be leaving mail behind again today..... can you just leave the mail for a different road, so at least everyone gets their mail sometime during the week"? Not a problem Boss.

Not a rumour. It is the genuine policy for RM at Christmas this year. If there is any difficulty in getting everything delivered then the letters and flats have to be left in the frame and only parcels and packets get delivered.
We couldn't cope last year and with the expectation that more business will move to the internet this year it will be worse this year. Expect to be delivering Xmas cards near the end of January or possibly into February.
