Order of seniority on a resign?

Every time someone tries to explain this it ends up like spaggetti. As I understand it, these are the elements:

Full-time
Part-time
Duty holder
Rest day cover
Driver

To that, you apply seniority in relation to the DO walks - so:

Each full timer chooses duty holder, then
Each full time rest day cover chooses
Each full time driver chooses
Each part time duty holder chooses
Each rest day cover chooses
Each part time driver chooses


So confused - am I on the right track?

Individuals (whether part-time or full time) get a pick of the new jobs based on how long they have been grafting for the business. If you have a 30 hour contract you cannot choose a 38 hour duty even if you've more service than a colleague on a 38 ( or full time contract). It ain't rocket science... but is in my opinion reasonably fair... as it recognises the vocational commitment (and rewards to some extent) long serving employees

A full resign, where all duties are laid out on a large spreadsheet (TM1?) should be individually 'picked' in the order of the person's:

Contract (eg 38 hours first, through to 20 hours last)
Start Date
If start dates are the same, various methods are used, but the official order is decided on job offer date of letter, if the same, interview letter date.

These letters were not easy to locate as people lose them and the company can't be bothered as they generally don't help much with a resign and leave it all to the union. So we ended up using pay numbers, lowest first.

If a 38 hour duty is spare after all 38 hour staff have picked then this will go on offer to the most senior next highest contract group (e.g.30 hours in a lot of offices)person in the office.

The problem with seniority and repicks is that the guidelines haven't been updated since the way forward 18 years ago when we were 95% full-time. Management fill in the blanks themselves, weak offices get screwed.

The first principle a rep should make clear before a revision starts is that duties will be offered in the resign on an outdoor work basis only then after the resign the indoor model can be built around this.

Lazy managers want to assign indoor work to duties before the resign then allocate duties as either full-time or part-time.
