What do you expect the union to do about people stupid enough to work for free? Have reps beating people up? There's nothing can be done about it; our DOM has even told people to stop coming in early because job and knock has gone they'll just be sent back out with more mail yet people are STILL doing it. On a Tuesday people are literally leaving as I walk in! People have just got to stop doing it.TheTrolleyMan wrote:Now we have the SWW when is the CWU going to address delivery staff coming in and starting early everyday ? At our office we have posties coming in 90 mins early everyday !

Our boss gets his Lino's to fling mail in and can't make people up to full time.
Still advances the mail every morning.
Oh and the runners in ours don't get sent out if mail has been left he pays out overtime f***ing unreal.
He doesn't listen to the union our health and safety guy.
His area manager must be scared of him lol lol lol

Virtually everybody used to in our office. In fairness you could go early, I'd go in an hour early but be done between 11 and 12 Monday and Tuesdays then go home. I gave them an hour but gained at the minimum 1 back, 2 or 3 hours on quiet days. Not any more though, our unit was a high impact unit for hours being lost so job and knock was finished. No point coming in early now; I start on my time, some daft people still come in early though. Must be mad.TheTrolleyMan wrote:Ive only recently gone over to delivery but is this normal practice at delivery offices ( Ie ...working for FREE ?)

There are a couple of genuine issues wrapped up in this one, if they're genuinely working for free I.e starting early but not finishing early there are two possible reasons, either they have too much workload or a lack of confidence in their own performance perhaps instigated by management or even peers. In those circumstances rather than slagging them off it would be more constructive if colleagues could support the staff involved and find out whether there is anything they can do to help.
If it's the case that they're starting early and finishing early that's not working for free, that's unilaterally deciding your working hours. That's a management problem, I would advise members to steer clear in that case because it's a fine line between banter and bullying.
