Maximum walking distance

Do you think there should be a maximum walking distance per day on delivery? One walk in my office has the walk holder walking between 17-19 miles a day. This can’t be good for their wellbeing.

They might have wee short legs like me, in reality it's probably half that lol. But get your point, there should be some maximums implemented re miles/stairs, purely for health and safety reasons.

So you're saying they actually walk, non stop for 6 hrs every day, without any time factored in for pausing at the door, doing packets, or anything else?? Think you'll find it's probably nearer to 10 miles if you take a gps device with you.

It’s actually more on really busy days

Think we can all agree, the milage may not be accurate. But on a busy day the most steps I'd likely make on many walks would be 27-28 thousand. Does sound like a monster walk. Is that outdoor only? Or is indoor/travel to and from work included.

A typical day is 22,000 steps +/- 10% and circa 100 flights of stairs. It leaves one weary come Sunday

The Union and Royal Mail did a study a while back about the effects on the body of delivery spans getting even longer. The results were hushed up as it goes against everything both Royal Mail and the Union try to argue. I seen it posted here somewhere.

Think about the poor posties especially in Glasgow where some of the walks, especially in the big South DO are all tenements with four sometimes Five flights of stairs non stop. Bummer.

When RM sent their own H&S bods to Scotland and they ran tests on the posties delivering to tenements in Dundee and an office in the West End of Glasgow, their report stated that no postie should be doing more than 100 flights of tenement stairs/day. (Approx 33 tenements max per duty)

Obviously planners stuck to that one lol Got one duty in our office that does that in first 3 loops. Bearing in mind there is 8 loops. So probably double that.
