Having just read on another thead, how much a Type 2 diabetic postie is struggling in this extreme weather, I wondered how many other diabetic posties there are.
Are you Type 1 or Type 2?
How are you coping in this extreme weather?
Are you doing anything different due to the extreme weather, than what you normally do?
How do yòu deal with your diabetes when working in "normal" conditions?
Does your DOM or Line Manager know about your diabetes and do they take that into account with regard to your workload or performance?
Do you have any stories to tell about how your diabetes has affected your work?

Type 1 Diabetic here
The heat should not make any difference if the Diabetes is will controlled. Don't you think there are Diabetics in hot countries.

Actually from medical sources, Diabetics sweat more and lose fluid faster in extreme heat than somebody who isn't a diabetic. Well controlled or not doesn't make a difference and also when you lose that much fluid sugar levels spike. Also the loss of fluids can also drop a person blood pressure resulting in faints etc.mattjo1@talktalk.net wrote:Type 1 Diabetic here

They have to make allowances - is the law.steve1812 wrote:hello everyone we have a diabetic postman with arthritis in his knees in my office and he is on another walk while his old walk is being tested using someone without the medical issues he has . surely this is not fair or would the company make allowances for this I am not to sure on this.

Both Arthritis and Diabetes are covered by the Equality Act, and reasonable adjustments have to be made. What ‘substantial’ and ‘long-term’ mean
‘substantial’ is more than minor or trivial, eg it takes much longer than it usually would to complete a daily task like getting dressed
‘long-term’ means 12 months or more, eg a breathing condition that develops as a result of a lung infection
There are special rules about recurring or fluctuating conditions, eg arthritis.

It is harder for asthmatics in the heat.
And we don't get our life saving medication for free.

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

That's why I made sure my diabetes was on my application form and mentioned in my interview. It's on record and they took me on with the disease.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:They have to make allowances - is the law.steve1812 wrote:hello everyone we have a diabetic postman with arthritis in his knees in my office and he is on another walk while his old walk is being tested using someone without the medical issues he has . surely this is not fair or would the company make allowances for this I am not to sure on this.

Type 2 current weather has had no effect just as normal. I have not informed my DOM but it was declared at my interview and is highlighted at each driving licence check.
