Rico Back, Group CEO, writes to all managers.

Good afternoon,

I am writing to update you on some organisational changes.

In order to compete effectively and deliver our strategic priorities of profitable revenue growth, cost efficiency and quality, we are making the following changes:

Post & Parcels UK has been created, and will include Royal Mail Parcels, Sales, Customer Experience, Pricing and Industrial Relations, as well as Letters and Network
GLS will continue with its businesses in Europe and the US. In addition, GLS will take line management responsibility for Parcelforce Worldwide and Royal Mail International
These businesses will be supported by three new teams alongside our existing Finance, HR and Comms functions:

- A new Strategy and Transformation function, bringing together the major strategic transformation programmes.

- A Chief Risk and Governance Officer who will oversee key central functions, including Legal, Company Secretary, Compliance, Internal Audit and Risk.

- A new Group IT function, combining both the Chief Technology Officer and the business IT functions.

In April, Sue Whalley was announced as CEO for Post & Parcels UK. Further senior appointments have also been made, with immediate effect:

James Rietkerk has been confirmed as the CEO of GLS
Jon Millidge will take on the role of Chief Risk and Governance Officer. In addition, he will continue to work with CWU on the introduction of a Collective Defined Contribution scheme and our lobbying the Government on this issue.
Sally Ashford will become our new Chief HR Officer
Mel Tomlin will take over as Chief of Staff
The Chief Information Officer and Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer will be appointed in due course

Additionally, an Executive Board has been established to focus on performance and deployment of our strategic priorities. This replaces TopCo and the Chief Executive's Committee.

There will be some organisational changes within Post & Parcels UK and GLS, and further details will be shared by Sue and James by the end of next week.

I'm confident that with this new organisation we can continue to build a successful company that we can be proud of. I wish everyone well with their new appointments and I look forward to working closely with the team going forward.

Just another high paid individual who has to be seen to be changing something to justify his huge pay award. Look out CWU, someone else to try and run rings around you. They obviously decided that dear Ms Greene was getting to familiar and a change was needed to resume normal hostilities.

Judging by the employment practices he used at GLS it looks like we could have a bit of a fight on our hands at some point.

New bosses in companies etc like to leave their mark on things sort of like bears and tigers but differently obviously.

For those who listen to radio just look at what the new guy at the BBC has done to the Radio 2 programmes for example. The Simon Mayo show is now a cackling mess and not half as good as it was - mourning the loss of the 'homework sucks' feature. Other programmes have been moved to hours where they won't get listened to. Sara Cox has been moved in favour of Gary Davies - a possible example of male bias - and I think Tony Blackburn has been dumped into the early hours. Not so bothered about the Tony change.

I doubt the letters part of the business will be split from the parcels as how we do it currently is deemed to be the most efficient method. Evidence is starting to feed through officially though that the GDPR has had a detrimental effect on the amount of mail being posted. I wish I had sold my SAYE shares when they reached 6.20 now. Will have to keep an eye out for when or if they drop back to 3.60.

Given how low profit and labour intensive the letters side is anyway I struggle to understand why any decline in letters (for what ever reason) should present such a a big issue... pkts is where it's at and the business should be concentrating on maintaining/increasing it's market share in that sector.
