I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Who is this guru?

I've always thought that there is a lot of common sense in bringing up the business to work 7 till 7pm, especially when a lot of customers work during the day and would rather have their parcels delivered on a night. Also, good to know that most offices start times remain unchanged.

I don't doubt that PDA technology opens up a wealth of opportunities which are focused on the customer. That is a good thing. But giving estimated times on delivery won't always be as efficient when Royal Mail have a tendency to cut costs and lapse it instead. Some guys take their lapsing before they do their own duty, some during their round and some after their 5.5 hour delivery span. Then again the 'in-flight' information does have rather a large window so why not just extend it to say something like 'delivery will be somewhere between 9 and 4' and everything would be covered!
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

according to this guru lapsing if you have time , and some guys do 2-3 extra loops on o/t and still get finished before there finish time , 5.5 delivery spans more like 6.5 - 7 , but the pdas will pick all this up :thumbup , happy days .

I haven't watched the video yet but I will. I think most long term posties will agree that the earlier you can get out on delivery the more likely you will catch customers in to receive parcels. Most offices will NOT see start times unchanged. IF we get the next two hours of SWW implemented that will move start times forward for every office by 24 minutes. Then there are the effects of the LAT to take into consideration which have not been fully realised. So SWW and LAT together could easily move start times forward by one hour for some offices.
In our DO for example our delivery spans are already at six hours and before all the agreement **** hits the fan we already have higher management heaping pressure on our DOM to get more lapsing or absorption. Our DOM will resist this pressure for the time being but PDA actuals etc will probably break our defence unless we stand together.
The views I express here are mine alone and do not represent the views of Royal Mail Group.

so do you mean by stand together as in no free work , start on your time , take your breaks , and use the methods ? as instructed by the cwu and royal mail in 2007 when p&l came in ?

And those people who do the extra loops on overtime now will just slow down. What can they say to them? Why are you working slower than you used to? Why aren't you working twice as fast as other people to get twice as much work done as other people? If they can use PDA actuals to make them speed up they will use it on the ones who are always cutting off or claiming

Yes. RM now have the ability to see precisely what is going on for the most part. It doesn't mean we should hang about but I think it also means the naturally really fast posties have to use their heads and come closer to the pace that others work at. The alternative is that even more hours and probably walks would be lost, capacity within our business will decrease further, and our jobs really will become a complete **** to do. Doing things like not coming in thirty or forty minutes before time and taking all our break times(preferably when we choose to)within duty time will go a long way to us using up all our duty time. In the event that this makes walks go over duty time, which is highly likely, then walks will have to be redesigned and maybe more walks will be made. I think we can turn this around so it can be good for posties providing RM plays fair.

I thought he was funny when he presented Eurotrash.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.
