Anyone here do a job share and how does it work.,colleague and me keen to do it,boss not so much,but both hanging on for evr as senior postmen,as the job is not for us anymore as the boss keeps say

It used to be say you and your mate would sign for a duty over the 6 days (think its 47 hours) and do 3 days a week each 23.5 hour contracts. Used to be really flexible at our place aslong as the duty got covered they werent too fussed but that was afew years ago in the glory days and no doubt it wont be as easy now but good luck

We have a couple at ours, three 8-hour days, so you do thurs, fri, sat, mon, tues, wed, then your partner does the same whilst you have a nice seven consecutive days off.

They love it. Better than alternating days, you get full weeks off all the time without using annual leave. And cos they’re doing 8 hours, they’re not just doing outdoor like a lot of new part timers.

Sounds great,but our manager seems uninterested in it but hey nothing new there,will ask again then take it further and speak to his boss,

There's gotta be a better way of doing it than 1 in 6 , you end up shattered and get 2 days off in a row a whole 8 times a yr. That's if you're a duty holder. Work life balance could and should be much much better. If it's happening in some offices then why not all???

You raise an interesting point that doesn’t get discussed often but is something I’ve thought about many times..

I actually enjoy having a day off in the week when other people are at work, HOWEVER there is a lot to be said for having two days off in a row every week like most other jobs.

With our system, you’re either ready for bed early even though you haven’t got to get up the next day for work, because you’re knackered from pounding the streets; or you’re capable of staying up past bedtime cos you’ve had the day off, but you can’t because it’s a school night.

So you never get a “Ive not been to work today, and tomorrow I haven’t got work”, like most people get on a Saturday.
