Overtime clanger ?
in my eyes Moya and her overpaid cronies have dropped a clanger, lots of offices up and down the country with mail not being delivered,a couple or more ring in sick, and its crazy,i can take overtime or leave it but mostly leave it as im not finishing at stupid oclock, why the hell couldn't RM bring finish and start times forward a minimum of 30 minutes,if my finish time was earlier,i would do a bit more OT,an extra loop may be,when there short staffed, these later finish times,no body will fancy any ot,especially those staff with kids etc,it really is a simple tweek, that could have been made, but yet again they go in the opposite direction

The only clanger I have with overtime is the blatant 'ghosting'. Overtime should be exactly that. Managers will never challenge it because 1 - They're weak managers and 2 - They'd lose their brown nose cronies

It won’t be a problem though, cos the idiots will come in even earlier and run even faster to get all the mail delivered

some people prefer to do the job properly and work at a steady pace and not cut corners and sign peoples recordeds and cut across gardens.bensonhedge wrote:I guess you are a heel dragging, break taking,I do the job correctly type who never gets asked?weary_posty wrote:The only clanger I have with overtime is the blatant 'ghosting'. O/T should be O/T and if people come back early shouldnt they be working till their time and be sent back out with work not finished??
If there is any work left behind or cut off , if anyone comes back early they are sent back out with work to last them to their finish time before you take out O/T

Do you seriously believe a DOM will be able to hide hours like they do now? The data fed back has and will be studied carefully to save every penny that RM think they can get. How well offices will run after the runners slow down is another storybensonhedge wrote:and how long before managers find a way around it when staff won't do the ot? And your last line is exactly why the data will only be used when it suits royal mail. Managers know they will have loads they can't cover if the no ghost rule is strictly used so will ignore it as they do now. A manager has told me he won't be using data to look at people who in his words play the game and help him out of the s**t, it will be the ones who costs him money and cause him problems who's data he will be looking atA2B wrote:Do you seriously believe a DOM will be able to hide hours like they do now? At some point RM will bite the bullet and start enforcing the 'rules' using the PDA technology/clocking in & out - no ghosting, everyone works to time etc. There will be carnage for a few months undoubtedly. RM just have to have the balls to tough it out.
The maths (for example):
Currently you pay Fred 8 hours pay, he runs round, goes home after 6. You pay Bob 8 hours, he runs round and finishes after 6 too,you then pay him another 2 hours to do some ghost overtime that takes him an hour. So you're currently paying 20 hours for 13 hours work done.
With clocking out - Bob drags his feet and takes 7 hours, so does Fred. They get sent out again (or take half the extra work each in the first place) and clock off after 8 hours (both dragging the 30 mins extra work out for an hour). So you've now paid 16 hours for the same 13 hours work. You've just knocked 20% of the wages bill despite the 'go-slow' from Fred & Bob. I can't understand how a multi-million pound FTSE 100 company can't understand this. Or why so many postie's don't realise that everyone's life would be so much better if we worked like this. Even the runners ghosting would be less stressed not charging around cutting corners racing the clock all the time. Ghost overtime sounds great in theory, but the knock on effects f**k the job up for the entire workforce.

Very good post. Also what you don't mention is the knock on effect of running round with a bag on your shoulder and the greater potential for accidents when rushing around and complaints, the list goes on and short sighted managers only pay lip service to these possibilities when they have to (slips and trips week, dog week etc). In the long run it must be costing the business in complaints and time off sick. Surely.ArthurPewty wrote:At some point RM will bite the bullet and start enforcing the 'rules' using the PDA technology/clocking in & out - no ghosting, everyone works to time etc. There will be carnage for a few months undoubtedly. What happens when royal mail knock that 20% of the wage bill. Will us posties see any of that money? I don't think so it will end up in the pockets of the shareholders.ArthurPewty wrote:At some point RM will bite the bullet and start enforcing the 'rules' using the PDA technology/clocking in & out - no ghosting, everyone works to time etc. There will be carnage for a few months undoubtedly. Nemo. They'll probably have to pay out some of that for more staff to reflect the 'slowing down' of the deliveries on average, but will still save a lot. if the CWU thought it through they would see the vast majority of postie's working conditions would improve and would negotiate a rise for us for agreeing to clocking out. RM make more profit for shareholders, we get better working conditions and a pay rise. That's not
in my eyes, that's
