This morning I had a ridiculous amount of foreign packets that require signing for, as we all know these packets clearly state what's inside so why are we having to get a signature for such items as a dog bowl, sports vest or even sexy undies for that customer you wouldn't even want to imagine wearing them? Surely it would make more sense for the sender to put them in regular packages and not waste ours and customers time if they go p739?

Probably a decoy. They may be sending diamonds through the post and want you to think it’s just a dog bowl ;)

Honestly, I have no idea why anyone would send cheap items recorded.

They have their value on them too sometimes, 50 us cents was one the other day I had. Probably cost the customer more in fuel coming to collect the item than it would to reorder it.

I don't think the description is ever of what's actually inside. It seems like 50% of the packets I ever got said 'tool', and the other 50% said 'mobile phone case', even though some were 2 foot long or weighed a few kilos.

A very high percentage of them seem to be from Asia. The equivalent of International Tracked & Signed must be a hell of a lot cheaper over there.

Yeah after a bit of digging found out the deflated value printed is a method used by international shoppers to try and get out of paying custom fees. Same goes for parcels marked with “Gift”....

Not sure that's he entire story. Ordering stuff from China/Hong Kong is often very cheap (Ebay/Alibaba etc) and the price paid for many of these items is below the value attracting a fee. I suspect the truth is a lot more complicated and has to do with the way China deals with and exchanges international currency values....It's all a lot more complicated than I can understand though

Yes, this happens as they are often piled up in customs clearing and scanning in LondonHR when they come in from the Far East. Then they decide, when the room's piled high enough, to x-ray and clear them all. As previous posters said, it'll be eBay junk and Chinese likely knock-offs of incendiary batteries, incendiary mobile phone chargers and toxic make-up palettes.

Hmm, toxic you say? You've definitely put a positive spin on my experience of standing in the pishing rain writing out a P739 for a tube of toothpaste from Taiwan that needed a signature.

Well they do have vending machines in Japan that sell them. There must be a market out there
