DO and Agency workers?

Is there a new directive or has it already happened, are agency workers employed on temp contracts filling absence overtime that cannot be covered?
Reason being local office apparently took some on and now it's rumoured to be used at several more local do.
Are they even allowed on delivery ? if they are has anyone got an HQ communication on it?

We've had 4 over the last few weeks...2 jacked it in after a day and 2 still coming in...Needed them for xmas but better late than never I guess

We had 6 in today just doing door to dustbins and picking empty boxes up. meanwhile they sent two of the callers office staff out doing delivery.

Same s**t different day.

We've got 12 of them in our office. Majority of them have been here 2/3 months now. All on delivery. Its a joke when we have 20+ part timers all doing full time hours & more on top but none have been made full time. Disgrace. Surely part timers should be made up before agency staff are employed??
What dies the union do about it? Sweet FA as per usual. Time to leave the union. Pointless paying subs

I didn't realise RM employed so many agency staff or even that it was allowed. I think at one time years ago we would occasionally have agency type people in but it was for one or two days on the odd occasion and never a regular thing. Can't remember the last time we had one in. We have had spare full timers in from other offices but nowadays most offices are short so there don't seem to be any spare staff now. Very lucky if you are fully staffed. We have had a full time vacancy for nearly a year but no takers .

Having to rely on agency staff due to the continuous cutting of permanent staff is the economics of a madman. Total false economy that RM employ.

Meeting I was in year or so again said only place in RM that couldn't have agency workers was delivery, direct from a div Rep. Not had anything from branch or HQ, area now says today that "yeah carnt do anything" WTF just happened

Mail centres and distribution centres both the same average 20 to 40 agency workers on nights week in week out many same faces year after year and part timers can't get made up.

There's something rotten about the whole set up and I can't believe the CWU has not done more to stop this as agency workers are supposed to be a short term staffing solutions.

As another poster has mentioned yellow bananas far outweigh the red tomatoes on a regular basis to a ridiculous degree
