MRM.COM : Electronic Proof of Delivery cards (EPoD) are the contingency when a PDA fails

If your PDA fails while you are out on delivery you must complete your delivery using EPoD contingency delivery cards (P4550) and report the fault to your manager and/or unit champion as soon as you return to the office.

You must immediately return to the delivery office and collect a fully functioning PDA device for high volume barcoded recipients (e.g. 28 items or more). The items must then be re-delivered in accordance with the PDA high volume delivery procedure.

You must always carry a supply of P4550 EPoD contingency delivery cards to be used in the event of a PDA breakdown, and it is imperative every EPoD card is correctly and completely filled out to ensure customers receive confirmation that all their barcoded items have been delivered.

EPoD completion - delivery
  • Always write the relevant unit code and delivery date.
SPDOs etc should use the same office code as their 'parent' delivery office.
Tick the box (PDA contingency) to indicate the specific reason for use. When delivering the item, peel off the removable barcode from the item and attach it to the card. If there is no peel off barcode, write the 1D or 2D barcode number in the spaces provided.
Time of delivery must be accurately captured in the space provided.
To enable effective scanning, the receiving customer must print and sign their name on the card before the item is handed over.
If delivery cannot be made, write an ‘X’ in the appropriate numbered box and state why delivery was not possible (i.e. the customer was not at home).
On completion of delivery, return the EPoD card and any undelivered items immediately to the priority service work area (or nominated point).
When an EPoD card is used for formal handover of premium products at a Post Office Ltd Outlet (POL) - such as pouching off or POL providing a P739 service - a separate contingency delivery card must be used and the appropriate box ticked.
EPoD process - return from delivery
Please check that EPoD cards have the following elements correctly completed for each item:
  • Time of delivery / attempted delivery.
The receiving customer’s printed name and signature.
The reason(s) why the item/s could not be delivered, with the appropriate box marked ‘X’.
The card affixed with the same number of barcodes as the total number of items shown for delivery.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

This RM blog (or whatever you call it) assumes that it is the PDA that breaks down. So far it has not happened to me but...... I'd like to know what the heck is going on with their network failures as this is impacting us more than PDA hardware failures. Had an outage last week causing use of EPoD form for about an hour. FFS :arrrghhh

They have already announced no hire vans in our depot over the Christmas period so some poor sods (no doubt part-timers with low seniority) will be delivering oversize items from 3pm+ for the busiest days of the week.

A lot of our newer slaves don't know what an Epod card is, never mind carrying one around in case of ststemic failure. Mind you, they do come in handy for thse odd occasions where there is 'ststemic failure' around 1pm causing you to have to resort to the card

The P4550 (Oct 10 revision) I have don't have a 'PDA Contingency' tick box!

Also I am reading too much into this - why should a customer have to sign for Delivered Scanned/Tracked No Sig or
bog standard packet item (especially if it fits through the letterbox)!

WTF is a 'Unit Champion'????

Somebody needs to tell the elves that live in my PDA that, because when I scan something, the top line of everything they quickly type reads ‘delivered to customer’
