Insecure post box in communal area

When you find a wall box that's clearly open with uncollected mail lying inside, what is the correct procedure?

We are supposed to safeguard the mail, so does that mean taking the contents inside back? Seems a bit of a grey area. This box in question has been like this for a good week, and has been delivered to by others since.

You're within your rights to knock it down as no access, I'd have thought. There's no secure delievery point, afterall. Guess it's a tough one as you could get other people in trouble who have been delivering.
