Part Time/ Full Time Pairings

Post by knockoffnigel »

In our office, after 7 years of park and loop, we are now told that each pairing has to be one full time, and one part time.
Most pairings which have 2 full timers together, have one on IPS and one prepping the walks....which works fine, but now people are being taken off their duties and dumped onto rota's or spare, a repick is supposedly on the cards, but even then we will be severely restricted as to which duties we can pick into....it will either have to be a full time driver and a part time walker or vice versa!!
Its upset a lot of members, but even though the union say "it wont work" we apparently have to go along with it!!!
Is this a national thing which has so far bypassed our office???
It seems completely pointless to me, and a disaster in the making???

it likely wont work IF you take your full break, do the job properly. Whether they would go back to the old pairings though who knows.

Only a small minority of us take our breaks, most are happy to skip them, start early for free, prep D2D's in their own time etc.
They are killing the job!!!!!!!!!!

So you union is allowing the displacement of staff ? The Full / short staff combo is common in the office I work in, the biggest issue tend to be the 9.30 starting staff which leads to delay problems. Do the Job properly, sort / prep what they ask and if when you partner arrives at 8.30 or what ever, they'll be in time to prep packets and bundle. If your likely to get out late or have problems, have the conversation with management.

We have some of these in our office my duty included. I just come in at my start time prep the rounds and go with the flow. If they are ready they are ready if not I cut off not my problem.
Still get all the nuggets coming in early though so it's win win for royal mail

in our office we are being told that the man and van duties will in future will be one part timer paired with a full timer and all duties only be open to drivers only . Previously one non driver could sign on each duty paired with a driver partner and with a driver floater it worked ok.As these are the 9 day fortnight duties some of the full time non drivers are upset about being denied a choice.

I emailed askmoya on exactly this issue. Finally got a reply from one of her lackeys. Basically they said that this was agreed by the CWU and Management as the fairest and best way to distribute the work load. I have queried the CWU agreement to this along with other various points. Just trying to get some understanding as to why they like this idea so much. Can't see any benefit to it at all other than to piss off full timers.

Perhaps if everybody emailed askmoya on this matter they might take notice? :hmmmm
Union what Union? Do we have a union?

This very issue causes problems in our office.
If you have 2 full timers together, one prepping, one on stack.
Off stack at 7.30 so both full timers throwing their walks in.
The full timer that has a part time partner coming in at 8.15 is basically throwing that 45 minutes' worth of work on his own.
So one pair of walks is prepped and tied up by break time, out on time.
Other pair on a hiding to nothing and management pretend there isn't an issue.
It isn't fair and needs sorting.

In our office we don't usually get off IPS until 8.30, part timers come in around 8.45.
Obviously the duty needs to be prepped, or nearly prepped by the time we get off IPS, so its just a case of tieing up and bagging up, but with no second full timer on prep how is that going to happen???
Management may think that one full timer can prep several different duties, but we know that's not possible....the only other way it will work I think, is to bring in partimers on overtime to prep the walks, and that would defeat the object wouldn't it???
I wish the union would ask our opinion on stuff like this before going along with it! :arrrghhh

We have so few people on IPS, usually no porters, not enough prepping that it's considered pretty early to get out by 10, sometimes part timers are coming in at 9 and not even all the mech has been put in a frame not getting out til 10.3
Ish then the bosses wanted to know why you can't take the 3-5 savings!! Shambles ??

And how does it work when the full timer finishes at 3:30 and the part timer 3:00 ? When the part timer is the driver and drops off the full timer at home at the end of the duty? :arrrghhh

None of it was thought through, at any stage.
Lino just runs round all morning putting out fires instead of really looking at the situation and fixing it.
Utterly ridiculous.

In theory it should make no differerence if you have the same amount of full time workers, in practice it will cause problems because team work and good management are not our strong points.
