Hi, we have an office that has a lot of reserves that do alot of overtime, this overtime is not distributed fairly and some wek a 20 hour reserve will do his hours but others he will be expected to do 40+. I would like to arrange a day when we ALL do our contracted hours. We currently have several vacancies that need to be filled. I am aware that people are contracted to 5 days per week and their contract is spread over these days so don't want to put people in a position that they can be targeted by disciplinary.
So for all those offices that have already done this... how does this work?, is it supported by the CWU?, do we need to ask everyone in the office to do it (cut out all Absence and Pressure Overtime for that day). This is something that is a big issue with us but nobody wants to tackle it as they feel pressured by themselves but I feel we can make a difference if we all act togeather.

Or have an overtime volunteer list on the wall, so those that want to take overtime can put their name down?sicknote25 wrote:Hi, we have an office that has a lot of reserves that do alot of overtime, this overtime is not distributed fairly and some wek a 20 hour reserve will do his hours but others he will be expected to do 40+. You'll probably find it very difficult to get the 20 hour contracts on board, as they'll have to cut off after 4 hours.

Do it on a Wednesday. Just have a chat with the part timers and see who is interested. Royal mail can do 0 about it.
We did it in my office 2 Wednesday's straight and this resulted in 14 people being made up.

I know but they have been shafted so many times with having their hours cut from 39+ to 20 that I think after talking to some that they will support it., We have the hours available in the office but they won't advertise the vacancies. I wouldn't expect any support if we tried to do it for a week but for one day i think they may support it. Just want clarification if it can be done with CWU support or if we have to do it alone. I have heard of other offices that have done this with success so wanted to know how they managed this. Thanks

You're welcome to tell your rep but you can do it without their support.
